Help needed with collecting accurate anonymous on-line research about swinging

Dear Sir/Ma’am,

I am a graduate student in psychology at Old Dominion University and am currently seeking volunteers for a research study on swinging and its effect on committed relationships. I am additionally collecting information that will greatly assist in updating what is currently known about the swinger lifestyle, as the majority of research on this lifestyle is greatly outdated.

I am not trying to get member info; I understand that this is private as it should be. Confidentiality of all participants will be assured. You never have to talk to me if you choose not to, and I never have to know who you are. I could really just use your help. My survey will be posted on-line at https://periwinkle.ts.odu.edu/surveys/NJNFUQ if you are willing to take it. I am interested in assessing your levels of commitment to your primary relationship, as well as looking demographics of swingers such as ages, education, STD knowledge, etc.


My purpose is to increase the amount of unbiased, accurate information about the lifestyle that is available to the public. Very little research has been done and published in accademia concerning this lifestyle in decades.


Eligibility for the survey is simple. It requires adults that are 18 and over, who have been in a committed relationship for at least a period of six months, and whose primary relationship is heterosexual. I would really appreciate your participation.


Please let me know of any questions that you may have, and if this is of any interest, I will be glad to fill any interested parties in more if they are interested. Participants will be given an opportunity to enter a raffle for a $100 gift certificate as a thank you for participating. I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Good luck with your project. You should get some good results with an online survey. We get at least a few grad students a year coming through here doing research and it seems like they rarely think far enough ahead to think that if they are asking for input online the easiest way to do it would be through a survey posted online.

We took the survey about a week ago, as we received info about it at our local club. It was a good, detailed survey. So good, that we actually directed Ms. Vedder to this site, knowing that it would result in lots of quality responses for her.

I took the survey, and being a Grad Student in the social sciences, I know how hard it is to get good data on subjects that are centered around sex and sexuality. Aside from helping someone out, I hope y'all take it, just because it is always good to get real information about the lifestyle out there (assuming the work gets published). It took me about 30 minutes, but I gave a ton of info on the open ended questions.

Interesting survey. One thing we noticed was it seemd to suppose every swinger goes to swing clubs. (Not us -lol- nearest club is over 3 hours drive away... )

Thank you everyone! This forum is the best! I have had a great time in here reading and visiting. I really am thankful for all of the replies and effort that everyone is putting forth as well as the good wishes!

If anyone is interested in the results of this survey, I should be done around June or July with everything.

As far as the idea that everyone is involved in swing clubs...I understand that everyone is not, that is why I'm trying to collect information that tells me how everybody meets up! Hopefully, this way I'll get a better idea about the demographics of the lifestyle.

Hello everyone! Wow! I am amazed by the response from this board. Once again everyone here is amazing and I thank you for the support. Since posting here I have gotten a large amount of individuals that have taken my survey. Thank you, thank you!

I will be taking my survey down in the middle of April so that I can meet the deadline put forth by my school. Until then I appreciate any and all of you that take the time out of your busy lives to do it. I only need about 40 more people! Yea!

As soon as I have it all finished, I will share my results here, as this data belongs in part to all of you.

Between this board and my other recuitment methods I have obtained about 112 people so far. I am pretty excited. I am getting there!

There are shows/documentaries on TV that might lead to the bias that Swing Clubs are the primary vehicle, but I would surmise that in this day and age, the Internet Adult sites and forums are primary.
