Things don't always go as planned (or hoped)
This trip isn't going quite as well as we'd hoped. The party is fun and the people are nice so what went wrong? I got sick, that's what went wrong. After a great start on Wednesday night meeting a few early arrivers and then spending Thursday by the pool and enjoying the party Thursday night with everyone. I woke up Friday feeling like crap. Not the "I drank too much" crap but the "my sinuses are trying to kill me" crap. Sore throat, itching/watery eyes, runny nose... that kind of crap. Not the kind of crap you want to spend the day by the pool with. So we didn't. We stayed in bed late then we skipped out and went back to Universal for a little while to pick up a gift (an item we'd found on Wed) for a good friend of mine. We went ahead and had dinner out there before returning and getting dressed for the party. All I can really say there is "we made an appearance". It was nice that a few people did notice our absence during the day and ask about us, at least. But I just wasn't feeling well so we skipped back to the room again.
Today I am feeling a bit better so we made a trek to the pool at about noon to find it completely packed. Not really wanting to spend the day standing around in the sun or forced to stay in the pool for lack of anywhere else to go (and since there were currently games going on in the pool) we decided to go for a drive to a local winery. When we returned to the hotel we went back to the pool to find it had calmed a bit but it felt as if there was this air of we didn't fit. I think we might have accidently ostracized ourselves by not sticking around. Even when we tried to approach people who had been friendly with us previously they barely talked to us, at best asked if I was feeling better then turned away back to their own conversations. I don't blame them, it's not their fault. It's OURS!
Tonight is the last of the parties. We are all packed as we have to leave the hotel fairly early to drive to the airport and catch our flight but we are hoping that before we leave we can have one last good time.
It's our anniversary and we're going to enjoy it damn it!
