When Clubs Collide....

So up until this month we had two clubs down in B'ham that held their socials at the same hotel (on different weekends). From what we saw it seemed to work well and they both got basically the same good turnout. Now starting in February one of them is moving to a new location. Nothing wrong with that as it sounds like it will be a better location. The odd part is that they are now holding their socials on exactly the same nights (as far as I can tell from looking at the schedules), which I find a bit odd.

It does make me wonder what has happened to make them want to do this. It is one of my biggest frustrations in this lifestyle, the way that people can't work together to support/promote it. There was obviously enough demand to have 2 parties a month (actually 3, as there is a third club in the area that typically holds parties on yet a different night - although they sometimes did overlap one of the others).

So now those of us who want to party have to choose which party to attend. The easiest way to do so is to view the attendee list and see which one seems to look the most interesting. Add to that at least driving by the new location and checking it out (which we can't do until the night of the party). Personally, I just think it sucks that we have to choose and that now our party options in any given month have been cut in 1/3. It's hard enough to get the stars to align so that the weekend we don't already have something holding us at home is actually a weekend there's a social to check out... but now the likelihood is even less.

We've seen this happen before. What will most likely happen is the club that winds up with the lowest turnout will change their schedule. I know it's sad that people do things like this, but reality is sometimes pretty sad. Plus, you don't know the whole story - it's possible that some outside influence is at work here. The club owner that has changed venues and schedules may have been forced to do so.

Within just a few months, things will most likely sort themselves out.

I would tend to agree if they didn't both have their schedules posted through pretty much the end of the year.

Unfortunately, it's been my experience that just about any time there is more than one club/social in a city, something similar to this happens. It may not be quite as bad... but it is just so rare that two clubs in the same city can seem to work together.... but then I guess that's why there are TWO clubs rather than them just merging into one club with two socials in a month.
