An evening that has given a reason to reflect

A Reflection: You do not find the elusive unicorn; she finds you.

JoAnn and I had a pleasant evening as the house guests of a very gracious couple. Some of the other guests were people of our acquaintance; other were new. All were connected by acquaintanceship with the host and hostess. The evening's experience has left me with an overall feeling of wellbeing and satisfaction. Unhappily, JoAnn is feeling a bit delicate over the fact that none of the men paid her a proper attention. As we were driving home, she confided in me that she did not get even an ass-grab from any of the guys, the ones she knows or the ones who were new; just a couple of chaste kisses given in greeting or goodbyes. Here's what happened.

Two single women were among the invited guests. Woman number one is young, sticks out in all the right places and was dressed to kill; red high-heel shoes, fish-net stalkings, naughty school-girl uniform, lift and separate lacy brasserie under the intentionally made-not-to-fit, button-busting white school-girl blouse, plaid skirt much too short to meet the criteria of a Catholic school. She squeaked and giggled like Betty Boop. The other is a quiet, dignified woman who displayed an inviting smile and was able to engage in conversation on just about any topic. Well, you can just guess which of these two drew the attention of the men. JoAnn was left feeling neglected, as I believe a few of the other women were. I am guilty of the same social sin as I gave my attention to the quiet woman, neglecting, I'm afraid, others who were just as deserving of attention. I had, of course, seen that I had no chance of gaining the attention of the School Girl. A man was there to intercept her every time she turned or moved from one place to the next. One guy would run to get her a drink when her glass became empty (which seemed to happen so often I was looking to see if she was tossing the content into the potted plants). Another raided his wife's purse to get dollar bills to stick under her garter belt and the elastic band of her bra. Another would plant a kiss on her to which she would squeak in delight, "Oh, you silly man."

While everybody else was distracted, I decided to see if my intellectually-inclined female friend would respond to a foot massage and a kiss. She did. With a nod from JoAnn, she and I reposed to an upstairs bedroom. Don't let those quiet ones put you off the track. Some are real tigers in the bedroom. This one is. Fun, pure an simple. We thanked each other for the fun time and decided to return to the people downstairs to socialize. Betty Boop was still going strong. But she never did accept any of the many invitations to do the horizontal Mambo. She basked in the attention all night long and early into the morning. The guys eventually tired of the game. I am now wondering how many of the guys heard the same complaint from their wives during the drive home that I heard from mine.

As I bade my newly-found friend goodbye, she said in front of me and JoAnn, "It was great fun; let's do it again." You do not find the unicorn; she finds you.
