The Anatomy of the Swinger Manual

I have to admit, I really did not expect the response I've already gotten for this book. I don't know what I expected but it certainly wasn't to sell the number of books I've already sold in the first 5 days and to have my first print (however small it was) sold out before it even arrived.

I had intended to be doing a lot more marketing of the book this week, but now I'm waiting to get caught up on the current orders before I start TRYING to increase them. They are increasing enough on their own!

The book itself has been quite the process. I mentioned it to only a few people before I knew it was complete, not wanting to jinx it. I started this book back in the spring of 2008, almost 2 years ago. In the midst of writing it I got sick and wasn't able to work on it for several months. Coming back to it was no small challenge and the deadline I assigned myself kept getting passed, but I did finish it. The next step was publishing. I purposely opted to not go after a standard publisher, knowing the time it would take to find one and knowing that having one would not really help with this type of book. Very few major brick & mortar book stores are going to carry a book like this regardless of who publishes it... and very few major publishers are going to know where to find this market. I know where to find you, and I can do the marketing, so it made sense to just get it published and make it available through a publisher that would get it on online retailers, like Amazon, then I could do the legwork to actually sell the book, directly and to adult bookstores and swinger clubs. The latter I haven't started yet, as I'm still trying to catch up on the direct sales.

I just hope that everyone who has ordered the book is as pleased with it as they expect to be. I am pretty pleased with it myself, even if there are already things I wish I'd added or included... perhaps a 2nd Revision down the road with more info and more quotes.

Pet thinks I've under-priced it, and the price may go up down the road. In comparison to other books on the topic, that IMO have lower quality information, it is VERY cheap. I priced the book at a price I would be comfortable paying... I love books but I can't see paying $40 for a book! Once you've read it I'd love to hear from you guys what you think the book is worth. I'd also love to know what you think about the book overall, what you liked, didn't and what you think might have been missed.

Pet suggested today a "Drama in Swinging" book, dedicated to all the crazy experiences that we and all of ya'll have experienced. Breaking them down to point out the red flags of how to avoid them. Might not be a bad idea as I think of it.

First print sold out :wow: And, I'm honestly not surprised :D

I love the idea of a "Drama in Swinging" book...and don't forget along with the drama there's also a lot of bloopers that happen in swinging that would make for some fun reading.

I agree with you, 40 bucks for a book is a bit much (although I've paid that and more for one I really wanted), the price though other retailers is about right IMO, and you could go a bit higher, say up to 30, and I still think it would be reasonable.

I'm looking forward to reading it and we'll definitely let you know what we thought.

Congratulations again lady!

Thanks for the feedback on the pricing. The first print was rather small, but I honestly was worried about how long it would take to sell it, and really in no way expected it to sell out in the first week (which it looks like it will do or come very close to doing).

Drama and bloopers? Would definitley have to change the names to protect the innocent. Or maybe even to protect the guilty.

I think for the "bloopers," it'd be more entertaining as a video. Get some folks from the site to act out their (or others) biggest bloopers, faces blurred to protect the innocent (and guilty!)

Maybe in post production, speed it up to about 1.5x speed, and use the old Benny Hill music...

:D

A friend (who has worked as an editor) and I half joked writing a book about swinging experiences, good and bad. But we thought about it more and how to not have people we wrote about (good and bad) somehow recognize their roles..if they happened to read it. Of course it would be a pen name but it still might be too close to reality.

I'm so glad to hear about your success in the very first week!

I'm also glad we were able to get a "first edition/first printing" of the book. I plan on selling it in 20 years to finance my retirement. :)

Here's hoping for continued success!

Have you considered an electronic version??? I like to have e-books to read while traveling or just waiting in line somewhere.

exploringRM - I think, as we've discussed here so often, when it comes to drama, those who cause it would never even think you were talking about them if they heard or read the story.
