Here is one of the important virtue for success living:

Chastity – Chastity refers to acceptable sexual behavior among men and women that is in line with the moral norms and guiding principles of a society, people, or religion. It has to do with abstinence from sexual intercourse except within the bonds of matrimony.

The acceptable behavior calls for abstinence from sexual intercourse before marriage and fidelity after marriage. This is at the soul of every society and culture. Any people who lose their moral compass usually find themselves in depravity and degradation. Their civilization is lost.

Take the case of Sodom and Gomorrah in the scriptures. In the modern times, even those who are perpetrators of immoral living find themselves bemoaning the depravity of our times. Just as immoral living destroys a society, it also destroys the individual. Many men and women who had started their lives with great promise have lost all they have worked for because of immoral behavior. Take the case of Sampson and Delilah in the Bible. Look around your neighborhood and notice those who have built fortunes who have lost them by immoral behavior by either marrying several wives or acquiring several concubines. History is replete with great men and women who have ruined their life’s work with the life of immorality. The discipline that comes from living a chaste life supports the sustaining of successful living.

I'm guessing this is the source for what you've read and related here:

Seven Qualities for Successful Living -Ezine Articles

I find a few fallacies in the article.

One, chastity is not at the soul of every society and culture. A quick search on the Google machine will show examples where this is not the case.

The writer says those who lose their moral compass usually find themselves in depravity and degradation. However, I don't see responsible non-monogamy as a strike against my moral compass.

Yes, there are quite a few "great" men and women that have ruined their accomplishments by engaging in less than stellar activities (not in my neighborhood though). What they were doing tends to be called cheating though.

Twice the writer says "Take the case of..." and references a biblical story. The writer just leaves this hanging there, without an exploration of the thought process. I can take these cases, but I'm not sure what the point is. Don't look back, or become a pillar of salt? Don't let your woman cut your hair? It looks like the writer felt a need to give the article some divine authority, so a couple children's tales were referenced.

Bottom line: I don't think this has anything to do with swinging, poly, or anything we generally deal with around here. This article tells the believers what they want to hear, and has no value to me.

Sunday sermon on a Wednesday? What is your purpose?

I would like to live in a society where "morality" is characterized by a gracious acceptance of difference, without an accompanying sense of superiority; where "virtue" is defined not by who you sleep with, but by your lack of harm and benefits to others in the pursuit of "happiness." To me, this is "success" in life ~ to enjoy it, make it better for yourself and others, without damage. Everything else is dogma.

Rome had an republic and then empire for 800 years (1400 if you count the east), and they had very little in the way of prohibitions on sex.

Then their empire falls after centuries and 'oh its because they were sexually depraved'.

Uhm . . . I'm a member of this board because I'm a swinger. That's because I enjoy having sex with persons other than my husband. I'm not in the habit of doing things I believe are immoral. So . . . what was your point again?
