Valentines, Shmalentines
Last week was another rough one, so I was really looking forward to my hubby’s return home. When I got home from work, there was a package waiting for me. My honey sent me flowers! It really made my day, and I couldn’t wait to show him my appreciation. Alas, the traffic on his way home from the airport put him almost an hour behind schedule, and I fell asleep before he got home.
Saturday night, we enjoyed a lovely dinner out before heading to our favorite Meet & Greet. It was supposed to be a sexy p.j. party, and wouldn’t you know it, I was the only one who actually showed up in lingerie. There was a great turnout, and thankfully, I wasn’t the only one in next to nothing by the end of the evening. The hostess has a lingerie/toy shop, and held a lingerie fashion show. The ladies (and gentleman) who volunteered to model for her got to keep the outfit they wore. Free lingerie is always a plus in my book!
We had a tentative date with my girl crush and her hubby that night, but for some reason, she wasn’t up for it. I kept wondering if I’d maybe done something wrong, or not been clear enough about my intentions. From what Mr. Sweet gleaned (from her hubby), she was a bit preoccupied and probably having a bout of nerves/esteem issues. It’s such a shame, she’s absolutely gorgeous. (And yes, I told her this.) Ah well, my honey and I were all too content to go home and rock the casbah.
Sunday, we went (shudder) to the mall to get a few things for our upcoming vacation. Did I mention we’re going to Cancun next month?!?! Since we’ll be lounging poolside for the better part of the week, it stands to reason I’d need new swimwear. I hate, loathe, abhor, detest, and revile swimwear shopping, but it was time alone with my honey. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few suits (bikinis, even!) that actually looked okay on me.
After we picked up the offspring, we enjoyed a family dinner at a Hibatchi restaurant. Apparently, Mr. Sweet had originally planned to keep the evening a surprise. When he found out what a tough week I was having, he spilled the beans so I’d have something to look forward to. I love that man!
Today was like any other Monday. Mr. Sweet went back down to D.C., and I went to work and wrangled the kiddos. I don’t really mind, though. While I can do without the commercialism, I still enjoy the holiday. I think all too often, we get bogged down in the hectic pace of everyday life that we sometimes forget to show the people we love how much we care. Valentine’s Day is a great reminder to do just that, and hopefully inspires us to make it an everyday thing.
I think I’ll step off my soapbox now and wish ya’ll a Happy Valentine’s Day!
