We have talked to a lot of people since the last party, and we have to say thank you to everyone who IM’d and or sent an e-mail thanking us for hosting.

One question we got from quite a few people was “Why do you host events, they seem like so much work?”

L and I have spent many hours discussing this, as we were working out if we were going to start hosting again.

First off yes they are a lot of work! But we do have our fun as well, so the “work” is worth it to us.

As to the “why” We have gone back and forth on this many times, it is easier to list the things that we are not doing it for.

We aren’t doing it to make money, we have come to the conclusion that up here in the great white north, that you cannot make any “real” money from putting on events.

We aren’t doing it to get laid, we have that at home and it’s great.

So back to the why,

I guess the main reason is that there seems to be a need for it. We took a 2 year break from hosting and no one jumped in and took over. There have been some great house parties, put on by some great people, there have been a few bar meets that from our understanding were fun as well. But no one was willing to take that extra step and throw really big events. So we talked and talked and decided since no one else was going to do it, that we would.

Another of the big reasons is that we both like to meet new people, and while meeting two on two is fine, we prefer to meet “new” others at events. We know that we are not alone in this. At parties there is a lot less pressure to hook up, you can leave anytime you care too. You get the chance to meet many people in the same place. You don’t have to spend days, weeks, or even months sending e-mails and chatting online. In person you don’t have to wonder if that picture is real.

As of right now we won’t be doing a ton of events, 5 or 6 a year is fine with us. If we see the need to do more then we may.

For 2011 we are looking at doing parties in May, July, September, A Halloween event either the end of October or beginning of November.

To make sure that we don’t get burned out/stressed out again, we are doing things a little different than before. We will be asking for volunteers to co-host. All the events will be bar takeovers. We are also asking everyone who likes to come to our events to spread the word about them, invite your friends and tell others that you will be attending. Many of the sites have a place where you can post up that you will be attending, this does not only help us to promote the event but it also helps you by letting people know that you are going to be there so they look for you to say hi. If you do decide to tell others about an event you will be attending, let them know that they need to contact us to get on the attending list. Please do not give out the location to anyone.
