The Wet Weekend

It was a dark and stormy night—for three nights in a row. The campers huddled under awnings or in tents playing drinking games or card games, and hoping for a break in the weather. Campfires lasted long enough to cook meals and roast a few marshmallows before being drowned by the pouring rain.

Yes, it rained every night of our annual camping trip with friends and family, but it usually cleared out by late morning. For those who read my last post, I am happy to report that the only drama that ensued involved our friends’ five-year-old daughter and her two “boyfriends.”

The highlight reel included a 3AM canoe trip; watching my kids’ first time paddling a kayak (my son did rather well); a visit from good friends whom we hadn’t seen in months; and Strip Progressive Gin. And of course, the best part of all was taking a nice hot shower and a nap in my cozy, comfy bed with my honey who took the day off. That said, I can’t wait ‘till we’re able to do it all again.

Socolais, had there been any playtime, that title could very well have held a double meaning.

And thanks, M. The couple with whom we do this every year are very dear friends (and the ones who initiated us into the lifestyle). The wife and I sometimes feel like women of the wild frontier, since we've got breaking down a campsite down to a science.

=)
