Newbie's Journey - Club 2 - M4

As I mentioned in our intro, we've been enjoying a couple of weeks sans kids. Last weekend we decided to give clubs another try. There were two on our list that were relatively close and we'd read good things about (M4 and X). M4 was the closest of the two clubs so we decided to try it Friday night.

M4 is located in the basement of an office building on a fairly busy commercial street surrounded by retail and close to residential neighbourhoods. The parking lot was full and we ended up with on-street parking. I was surprised by how self conscious I was about walking up to the unsigned entrance of the club.

The tour was thorough and informative. The hostess was pleasant and knowledgable. The club itself was OK. The crowd was small but adequate, but we saw no one that we would classify as our type. The back area was clean but nothing to write home about - mattresses on the floor, cloth covered sofas, and mood lighting. Overall it felt like we were at a house party in somebody's repurposed basement.

The big negative for us however was that Friday night was their 'threesome' night and that meant (for M4 anyway) lots of single men in attendance - and all of them on the prowl. Now if that was what we were looking for, then this would probably have been a big plus, but for us (*A* especially) continuously feeling like we were being circled by sharks on the hunt was distracting and a turn-off.

After ordering a drink and taking in the vibe of the club for half an hour or so, *A* turned to me and said "I'm not enjoying this, let's leave and try X".

Lessons Learned:

  1. Learn from your mistakes - we weren't going to hang around someplace we felt uncomfortable.
  2. Decor is far more important than either of us initially thought.
  3. Atmosphere extends to the behaviour of the attendees.
