Sadness, Studying, Surgery, and Sweetness
We have had quite the roller-coaster week here in the Sweet household. It began with some terribly sad news. The sweet, beautiful l nine-year-old girl across the street (a good friend of my daughter's who practically lived here) was killed in a horrific car crash that also claimed the life of her father. Her mother is still in critical condition and may be paralyzed. Her older brothers (with whom my son was close) were also injured. The older boy has a severed spine and is paralyzed from the waist down. The younger boy has a badly broken leg. There are simply no words . . . But I’m proud that my kids have handled this so well (better than I, really).
We’ve also spent the week on the final push of Boy’s summer school packet. He finally finished it yesterday, so Monday will bring the beginning of the knuckle-biting wait for the results. Also, my friend who is painting our house has been bringing his kids over. They’ve been given supplemental workbooks over the summer, so I’ve been working with them, as well. It’s a good thing I love my job!
Monday will also be the day Mr. Sweet goes under the knife. He has to be at the hospital at 0545. Thank goodness, he’s accustomed to being up that early. It also means he’ll be home earlier, and have time to rest. He plans to work from home for a few days while he recovers. While I’m not keen on the reason behind it, I admit I’m looking forward to having him around.
Thankfully, our week ended on a happy note. We found ourselves unexpectedly kidless last night (the neighbors invited them for a sleepover), so we spent some much needed quiet—and not so quiet time together. And when we called to wish Mr. Sweet’s brother and wife a happy first anniversary today, they told us they are expecting! We will also be spending some time hanging out with friends tonight and tomorrow. Life is too short not to enjoy it!!
=)
