Takeover at a resort hotel

My wife and I are spending a weekend at a West Virginia resort hotel. I'm up earlier than everybody else. Preliminary report: this hotel has declined quite a bit since the time I was first a guest about twenty years ago. But swingers are an indefatigable bunch and seem to look past all of that and simply dive right into fun. I've give a more detailed report after we arrive back home.

Party in the ballroom tonight. Another couple and we took a trip this afternoon to a nearby event in Maryland -- The Deepcreek Dunk. People jump (intentionally) into a hole cut into the ice on top of Cheat Lake. Then we explored a very cute little town named Oakdale, home of Bob's Sushi and Live Bait as well as J J Lumber and Lunch. Those things go together, right?

When JoAnn and I arose, dressed, and wandered down the hallway toward the hotel's restaurant, nearly everybody else was in their hotel rooms sleeping off their revelry from the evening and early morning. We found evidence of the frolic like this in the hallway. One of our friends whom we met at the breakfast table said that she was also up early and encountered the housekeeping manager who asked, "are you one of these 'swinger' people?" She answered, yes. The housekeeping manager replied indignantly that "her girls" were going to refuse to clean up messes like this. There are many things that tell me that communication between the organizers of this not-quite-a-complete hotel takeover and hotel staff was incomplete. The party organizers had told us that the entire third floor of the hotel, including swimming pool and hot tub, were reserved for partygoers. But a SCUBA diving class apparently showed up at the pool on Saturday afternoon and were greeted by naked people some of whom were cavorting shamelessly in the water. Other wide-eyed vanilla guests, including children, walked past the ballroom on Saturday evening to hear a torrent of the amplified profanities from the X-rated comedian that was hired to entertain the swingers.

We had fun with our swinger friends, for sure, and met new people. But JoAnn and I had made a pledge to ourselves that we will never, ever again get involved in any hotel gathering unless we have an ironclad guarantee that it is really, truly a TAKEOVER.

Alternative lifestyles are, by definition, different from social norms. Just because one might not embrace a social norm does not give license to disrespect that norm. Quite the contrary, respect is earned.

As you (and

before you) pointed out, "What we got heah is failure to communicate!" It will be interesting to find out how that occurred if only to avoid same in the future.
