mauijanedoe 1,414 Posted October 9, 2013 For those who shave their bodies, what do you use and how often do you have to do maintenance? I'm particularly interested in men who bodyscape, because, well, I have an agenda. Confession #1: I don't like back hair. Confession #2: Mr. Doe has some. Now that I have that out of the way (having potentially offended a whole lot of men who sport back fur), last Valentine's Day M. gave me a note saying he'd get his back waxed. I've put off collecting because I know that once will be all I get, as waxing is, erm, painful. But Fundamental_Law reminded me in chat a few weeks ago that body shaving was a possibility, so I thought I'd ask the experts. So, electric razor, clippers, hedge trimmers? Also, do you shave your entire body or just patches? And how do you know where to stop? Quote Share this post Link to post
two4youinswva 3,068 Posted October 9, 2013 The back hair starting sprouting on me a few years ago. It really, really sucks. No, really. It sucks. First, I tried Nair for Men. It worked really well, but my skin said "Fuck you. If you do that again, I'll pull myself right off your back and fall into a heap in the floor". So, no more Nair for Men. Since then, I've used this method with decent results: I use an electric manscaping razor if it needs to be knocked down first, then Mrs two4you is kind enough to climb into the shower with me and use a regular razor to shave it close. That works good for play night, but after one day the cactus effect can start taking place. I try to keep it eliminated, because it makes my back itch, so every time I'm in the shower, I hit what I can with a regular razor. I have figured out how to contort enough to get maybe 90% of it myself. It's not a perfect solution, but it keeps me from taking a brush torch to my back in frustration. funcoupledayton 2,708 Posted October 9, 2013 I get Brazilian waxes and it's really no big deal pain wise. The first time is the worst. The back is a bigger area, but less sensitive, I would think. I've heard that you can take advil before you go and that helps, I never have. It hurts for a second when they do it, then it's fine. If he's willing to try waxing I'd go for it. It's much smoother than shaving, takes longer to grow back and is less prickly/itchy than shaving. Find someone with references/reviews, there is a big difference in waxing professionals. I had my eyebrows done once at my nail salon. It was horrible, I can't imagine what they would do to other body parts. Quote Share this post Link to post
exploringRM 305 Posted October 9, 2013 I shave my chest, abdomen and genital area in the shower with a razor and shaving cream. If it's been awhile I will get a trimmer (dry) and trim things back. Quote Share this post Link to post
angelkin 1,326 Posted October 10, 2013 Hubby is not especially hairy, but about once a month, I will shave his back. He doe sn't get the cactus effect - lucky us Quote Share this post Link to post
sunbuckus 3,569 Posted October 10, 2013 Gosh, you all reminded me of something I should be more thankful for...Mr. Sun doesn't have chest or back hair! Thanks, guys! Quote Share this post Link to post
Fundamental Law 2,903 Posted October 10, 2013 Mrs. FL uses clippers on me. She calls it "Furminating", same term she uses with the cats. Quote Share this post Link to post
Chicup 42 Posted October 10, 2013 I'm partially welsh which makes my back partially hairy. I got my wife to shave for me using a clipper with a close shaving head. She at first didn't want to do it, about two days ago she said "we need a set day every week for your back, it's getting too long". Being I'm not an Asian man I do have chest hair and I'm not shaving that, it's instant acne. Quote Share this post Link to post
81lizard69 470 Posted October 10, 2013 I wonder. Does waxing eventually lead to permanent hair removal. I ask mt wife to knock down the furry patches on my back. I guess this proves I am part caveman..And she shaves my wedding tackle. Quote Share this post Link to post
mcrider 15 Posted October 10, 2013 I shave my genital area most mornings in the shower. By day's end I have some stubble. I've heard men should not wax there, but I've also seen waxing salons advertise 'manzilian' waxing. Anyone tried that? Do they really wax the entire area. I had my wife shave my back in the shower, and I tried to keep it shaved once a week or so, but reaching it all is tough. Any suggestions for doing the back oneself? Guest Posted October 11, 2013 Like FL I use manscaping clippers but they also have an electric razor built in. the Mrs helps me with it most of the time but it also has a handle that allows me to reach the back. Arms, legs and chest are trimmed up a bit and genitles, head and face are shaved clean. Quote Share this post Link to post
81lizard69 470 Posted October 11, 2013 One day the electric clippers took a bit ouf of my nut sack.. Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,713 Posted October 11, 2013 I don't have hair on my torso at all, so it's just a matter of keeping the pubes shaved. For that, just a razor and shaving cream in the shower does the trick. If I've let it go a little since the last time, then I use one of those rechargeable beard clipper/trimmers first to get it down closer before using the razor. A hint the Mrs picked up from one of her girlie magazines that helps keep the red bumpies under control is to use hydrocortizone cream on the area once or twice a day for several days after shaving. It does seem to help. The more frequently you shave though, it seems like the red bumpies start to become less of a problem. Quote Share this post Link to post
mauijanedoe 1,414 Posted October 12, 2013 I wonder. Does waxing eventually lead to permanent hair removal. No, sorry. There are actually post-waxing creams that will eventually thin and soften regrowth, but you have to use them daily and it doesn't eliminate hair. I've noticed that the one question nobody answered is how do you know where to stop. From that I'm taking that most of you are not easily mistaken for yaks, which Mr. Doe strongly resembles and why he trims instead of shaves his genitals. The only other furry person I know biblically shaves everything to get around the problem, so he's no help. Quote Share this post Link to post
Chicup 42 Posted October 13, 2013 Good question for which I have no answer I suppose I'd shave the back and trim the rest, you will need to help out on the trimming. Quote Share this post Link to post
Fours Company 169 Posted October 14, 2013 We just watched "Mansome" last night, which for those unfamiliar, is a comedy/documentary by Morgan Spurlock of "Supersize Me" fame and addressed some of these same issues. The whole premise is based upon how supposedly the same society pressures that for decades have been responsible for females to obsesses over appearance are now transferring themselves to the male vanity and "metrosexual" movement. I highly recommend it both for it's humor and what in my opinion is a not so positive trend. Although where else can one find a film that plugs a product to keep one's nutsack dry and fresh-smelling ? Quote Share this post Link to post
lotsoffun201 175 Posted October 14, 2013 I have more hair than humanly imaginable! I use a Mach 3 to do everything I can see from the neck down including legs and arms. I can't see my back for obvious reasons I have done the waxing thing but truth be told I tend to get really irritated from it and it doesn't last all that long with me. I have had the mrs use electric clippers ( she has a professional one since she is a hairdresser ) but I have found the Nair for Men works pretty well. I have to do it every 2-3 weeks. mauijanedoe 1,414 Posted October 15, 2013 Ahem. Manscaping. One of my two best friends (no, some of us don't actually outgrow the concept) is a metrosexual straight man. He has more clothing than I do, although I win at shoes, and uses more hair care products, but he doesn't bodyscape at all. I'm not sure why trimming body hair seems less manly than getting pedicures, but that's his line. He's also not a swinger, so there's no social pressure to do so. How many of you would bodyscape if you weren't swingers? Quote Share this post Link to post
Chicup 42 Posted October 15, 2013 mauijanedoe said: How many of you would bodyscape if you weren't swingers? If I wasn't a swinger or single, not at all. While my wife likes it now, she was against it when I started, especially when I trimmed (not shave) my chest. Quote Share this post Link to post
sunbuckus 3,569 Posted October 18, 2013 Two of the local radio jockeys in town have been advertising for men to get laser hair removal for their back/chest hair. Have you considered that option? Quote Share this post Link to post

The only other furry person I know biblically shaves everything to get around the problem, so he's no help. I have pondered that same thought where do you end it. The older I get the more hairy I get and the more places I have that could use a shaving. Does any one know about the laser hair removal deal you see on tv? Quote Share this post Link to post
Chicup 42 Posted October 18, 2013 Laser just doesn't seem like something I want to do. It would be ok for my back, but I don't think its worth the time/expense for what takes 4 minutes with a clipper tops. I'm NOT zapping by balls, and I like having chest hair. Trimming is fine for me. CaptainFantasmo 15 Posted November 1, 2013 In short, my husband either shaves or trims everything except his eyebrows and underarms. Yes, that includes his head, but that's a totally personal choice for him, and no he's not naturally balding or anything. He obviously just uses razors to shave, and a Phillips Norelco trimmer on his legs and butt area. He shaves the small amount of chest hair he has, pubic area, head, and face. Luckily he doesn't have back hair. I am equally disturbed by my own body hair. I use an epilator on my legs, underarms, and my unfortunate "happy trail". I had a complete Brazilian laser hair removal, so although I do have to shave that area every now and then for some stray hairs, it's pretty much hair free down there all the time. My husband and I have waged war on our unwanted body hair. My battle experience has been a lot more painful. Quote Share this post Link to post
FL_Stylin 18 Posted November 7, 2013 Haha, I have my own preference of which devices to use in what areas in order to minimize irritation, ingrown hairs, and nicks.Norelco Bodygroomer for the win when it comes to hair removal for my lower back, under arms, butt, crack, anus, gooch, etc. Fine for balls too but I'm extra careful down there. Can also be used on stomach, chest, and pubic area when I'm in a hurry. I prefer to lather up and do stomach, chest, and shaft with a simple twin blade bic safety style razor. Every few weeks I'll trim leg hair with my electric Wahl head hair clippers and the next to lowest plastic guard. If I want to keep a little hair above the shaft, I CAREFULLY use these with the smallest guard or no guard. Every guy is different, but this is what works for me. lol at the level of detail I just went to... Quote Share this post Link to post
mauijanedoe 1,414 Posted November 19, 2013 Does any one know about the laser hair removal deal you see on tv? Nope, but after Mr. Doe's experience with waxing - it looked great for 24 hours and then he broke out all over his back, which was weird because he has great skin - it's going to have to be laser, because he's just not interested in frequent shaving or a repeat of the waxing experiment. I'm guessing it's possible to find a place that is good and not too crazy expensive. Quote Share this post Link to post

Those2again 18 Posted July 14, 2014 Hi new poster here . This is the Mrs. I just wanted to say try European waxing. Strip less They don't use the Cotten it's all wax. I have been waxing forever and discovered this recently and ladies and gents I swear it's the next best thing to sliced bread. Not nearly as painful and slow regrowth. I couldn't believe the difference!! Here in California the chain is called European Wax Center. Amazing!!! I will never go back to traditional waxing. Quote Share this post Link to post

sacmedic 21 Posted September 1, 2014 Waxing is the way to go on the back, for me. Shave for the underarms and sensitive areas. Had laser on the arms, so occasional shaving there, too. Can't imagine laser for the boys. Quote Share this post Link to post
