Lady angry about her family sharing a hotel with swingers Halloween party

Recommended Posts

Mother horrified to learn swingers' Halloween party to be held in well known hotel - Independent.ie

The woman believes it is inappropriate for the 'Halloween fancy dress' bash to be held at the luxury Silver Springs Moran Hotel in Cork during the mid-term.

She said she will be forced to cancel the break which her and her husband had saved up for as a treat for their three children as they didn’t get a summer holiday.

“We booked in months ago and we’ve paid good pennies to go down and I do not want my children, especially teens, exposed to this in a family friendly hotel,” she told Independent.ie.

Sounds like she was the one trying to stir this up by going to the paper out of spite, but I will give her kudos for some sanity in at least one thing she said - "....I don’t want my children exposed to that until they are old enough to make decisions like that themselves." Reasonable approach to take as a parent, but can't expect a venue to turn down booking a whole block of rooms to keep just you and your one room happy. Easy business decision there.

Does she think that there are going to be swingers rolling around the hotel, doing it on the piano over brunch?

You mean that's not allowed? In that case I'm not going. ;-)

I hate to say that many, MANY times "Swingers" did not use the common sense that God gave a rock here in Vegas.

They would get into elevators that had families in them, ladies dropping their tops, guys playing grab ass. Going to the very public restaurants dressed worse that most of the local hookers.

Just because someone is a Swinger does not mean they know how to act in public.

Then they wondered why many of the hotels here would no longer book Swinger events. :nono:

Yes. We have been to a hotel takeover in Niagara Falls a few times where we saw the same behaviour. Part of the room deal with the hotel was a voucher for dinner at a nice restaurant overlooking the Falls, and the group would go together, over a hundred people; while we would dress in a way appropriate for a public venue, some of the women dressed as though they were going to a club. After the first couple of times the restaurant wised up and put the swingers in a private room; we and a small group of friends wised up and reserved a table in the main dining room, dressed to the nines and a lovely meal with better service.

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, which was very understanding, our group was allowed in the pool and hot tub after hours, as long as we behaved ourselves (no nudity or sexual behaviour, as it was visible to the general public. People broke those rules, and we lost the pool and hot tub.

One of the Toronto clubs keeps having to change hotels for its hotel and club deals- the pre and post club parties get so wild, and the swingers don't cover up enough when in public spaces, that one hotel after another tells them that they're not welcome.

Regretfully, similar things have happened in the Pittsburgh area. A very hard-working couple from a bordering state organize hotel parties and among the rules are 'doors open and state-of-undress only on the designated party floor'. Every year, somebody prances through the lobby naked and every year these party organizers are looking for a different hotel.

They fare better when they organize a complete 'take over' of a hotel.

I wish I could disagree with VegasLee , but unfortunately I can't. 95%-99% of the folks are awesome, and understand lines, limits, and boundaries. But that 1%-5% that doesn't is why we can't have nice things.

This event was not actually a swingers party but a fancy dress (for halloween) meet and greet. There's a good chance there no actual 'lady' per the story, but just a story concocted by the Irish media.

This definitely doesn’t fall under “best practices” for organizing lifestyle events:

      https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/27/nyregion/nycha-bronx-staff-sex-parties.html

“The litany of problems facing public housing residents in New York City — mold, lead paint, faulty boilers and leaky roofs — just got longer: claims of staff sex parties.

The entire 40-person staff of a housing development in the Bronx was reassigned over the weekend after residents complained that some workers had been drinking and having sex on the job.

Male and female supervisors at Throggs Neck Houses engaged in erotic activities with their subordinates for months — both inside and outside the buildings, said Monique Johnson, the president of the development’s resident association.”

While this is news, it is not particularly positive news.

Re:  Jerry Falwell, Jr and his family, for example here:

      https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-falwell-relationship/

Here are the first two paragraphs of the report:

WASHINGTON – In a claim likely to intensify the controversy surrounding one of the most influential figures in the American Christian conservative movement, a business partner of Jerry Falwell Jr has come forward to say he had a years-long sexual relationship involving Falwell’s wife and the evangelical leader.

Giancarlo Granda says he was 20 when he met Jerry and Becki Falwell while working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel in March 2012. Starting that month and continuing into 2018, Granda told Reuters that the relationship involved him having sex with Becki Falwell while Jerry Falwell looked on.

Ignoring the political aspects of the timing of all of this, there are some takeaways.

      1. Political leanings are irrelevant to biological drives, sexual fantasies, and the behaviors that follow.

      2. The problems arise from the evident hypocrisies: preaching 'family values' (however defined) while practicing something beyond a standard of marital monogamous heterosexuality.

      3. Institutions and groups that perpetuate such hypocrisies typically respond the same way, namely by denouncement and expulsion of the person(s) who have been "found out" and restatement of the institutional/group value.

      4. There is a business dispute including accusations of extortion folded into all of this.

It is absurd to imagine that leaders are somehow immune from fantasies and the intentions to act on those fantasies. What would be more helpful are commonsense boundaries between public and private lives as well as reasonable display of integrity. Even then, humans find ways to accommodate 'sinful behaviors' while embracing integrity:

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?

Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!

[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
      Croupier: Your winnings, sir.

Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.

      [aloud]
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once!

Neither the evangelical community nor Mr. Falwell's employers should be "shocked, shocked" to find that (even) their annppointed spokesperson enjoyed variety in sexual expression, apparently with the knowledge and consent and participation of his wife of 34 years. Adopting the usual denouncement-and-expulsion-upon-being-found-out strategy ("Do as we say, not what he did!--He was weak and you must be strong!")  merely reinforces the idealized pretense of purity. The reality is that tensions between sexual suppression and sexual expression are as old as civilization. While individuals and institutions can impose rules on themselves and set expectations for others, a bit of realism would be welcome: the aforementioned tensions cannot be "wished away".  At the same time, business dealings with playmates might be predicted to end badly, as appears to have happened in this case.

      The Reuters article concludes:

In a statement released Friday, before news of the relationship with Granda became public, Liberty University said its “decision whether or not to retain Falwell as president has not yet been made.” Its board of trustees, the statement read, “requested prayer and patience as they seek the Lord’s will and also seek additional information for assessment.”
