sunbuckus 3,567 Posted July 7, 2015 It's another glasses versus contact lenses thread! A few months ago, the optometrist tried to have our son use contact lenses instead of glasses but he just wasn't ready. However, we really feel that contact lens will really help his situation so I put out the suggestion that next year, we would both try contact lenses together. Here's the problem: I like my glasses. I like the way I look in glasses. But most of all I'm pretty squeamish when it comes to putting things into my eyes. So, I'm feeling trepidation about trying out contact lenses next year but I'm willing to do it if it will help our son feel more at ease with trying them out. This got me wondering though...I've heard from a few couples (both here and in person) that they wear glasses in day-to-day life but wear contact lenses when going out for special occasions or to swing. Is it a flawless transition from one to the other? Is there a specific reason why you wear the contact lenses instead of glasses? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrDiscover 802 Posted July 7, 2015 Oh, this was the very first practical 'problem' I ran into at our very first club visit! My eyes are very bad, without glasses I can only see vague shapes. When I have sex with MsDiscover, most of the times I don't wear glasses since I find them unpractical in certain situations (shower & oral). Never a problem, MsD's nice curves are easy to navigate. Then we went to our first club. Glasses on to enjoy every hot scene further than 3 feet away. Glasses off to enjoy MsD. Glasses on to look around. Glasses off for the steam-bath. Glasses... wait a minute, where are my glasses?! I found them back behind a couch, next to a full condom (not mine)... So when we decided, last autumn, we would try more adventures on the path of swinging, I went to the optician for contacts. I was glad I had them the last three dates, less trouble and more eye candy. However, from time to time I struggle with the ease of wearing contacts. I have used them 20 years, from 15 tot 35 years of age and I don't remember them being so painful at times. I started slow, a few hours a day. Building it up to wearing them the whole day. But there are days when I don't even try and use my glasses. Days with lots of pollen in the air, for instance. Nevertheless, the advantages are bigger than the disadvantages. No more dusty glasses, easier taking photographs, easier to wear sunglasses, easier taking a shower, going from a cold to a warm environment, in the rain. And easier during sex. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,713 Posted July 7, 2015 It will vary from person to person I'm sure, but I tried exactly what you are describing. I've worn contacts full-time at several points in my life, and while I don't have any problems at all putting them in, it just never worked well for me. Yes, the glasses are aggravating for all the reasons mentioned above, but at least they aren't physically uncomfortable and your eyes aren't all bloodshot after a few hours. I had gotten away from contacts completely, but then when we started swinging, I had the same idea, that I would just wear them on special occasions. So, I went and got fitted again with the latest, greatest contacts hoping that would help, but it didn't. So, now, glasses it is and I don't see that changing again. SW_PA_Couple 4,024 Posted July 8, 2015 Contact lenses = vanity Eyeglasses = practicality In the business world, I react more favorable with those men who have the Poindexter look. In the private world, I react more favorably with the women who show the librarian look. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
kikonkrome 844 Posted July 8, 2015 Contact lens forever!! Especially for playtime. I bring eye drops for both my wife and myself to mitigate the uncomfortable effect. That being said I have an optometrist that actually let's you try different contact lens to find the ones that are most comfortable. The last time I was fitted, we tried about four different brands before I finally settled on the ones that fit me best. I was right there with your son, red eyes, scratching, the entire ridiculous nine yards. I also have a stigmatism in my left eye (lazy eye), which made me think contact lens were not an option for me. The contact lens I have in now I can fly in planes with, sleep in over night, etc. They are amazing! My take away was find an optometrist that will take the time to get contact lenses that really fit well. There is a huge difference between brands and even solutions. That being said my wife an I do eyeglass night, where we both wear our eyeglasses and get busy. It is just kinda messy cleaning here cum off of my glasses the next morning...swing life problems. asncpl 729 Posted July 9, 2015 I have been wearing contact lenses since high school. I just like it better for many reasons. It doesn't fogged up when going from air-conditioned place to outside, doesn't slip when I sweat, gives me better peripheral vision, and in general it's so much easier to work out in contacts than in glasses. I also like to wear contacts during play. Sometimes all the arms and legs will inevitably knock my glasses off unintentionally. I wear glasses when I am at home. I sometimes wear them when I play solo with another partner. The transition doesn't bother me at all. I think each of us know best what works for us, and I have never liked glasses. But I meet plenty of people for whom glasses work great. As for being squeamish, I remember the first time I tried on contacts, and I couldn't keep my eyes open because my natural instinct was to blink when something touched my eye. But it gets easier with use and practice and I don't even think about it now. It will feel strange for a while but give it a little time. Quote Share this post Link to post
Ebonylehigh 254 Posted July 9, 2015 Glasses for everyday, but contacts for play! I love my contacts and my glasses, it is easier to just throw on glasses but when play begins I still want to see and my glasses get in the way. I have been using contacts for years so I am pretty face with the put in and take out. I haven't had any problems with my contacts and bring a small bottle of solution with us. My hubby recently started wearing contacts out since we started in the lifestyle he found them a little tricky at first but he is pretty fast with them now too. The touching his eye was the problem at the beginning. Quote Share this post Link to post
GoldCoCouple 4,066 Posted July 9, 2015 Oh, no! You two aren't convincing me that contact lenses are the best thing since potato chips! The thought of putting something into my eyes and being comfortable with that...I would rather put the potato chips in them. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrDiscover 802 Posted July 9, 2015 Rumors are that potato chips are not improving eye sight. But I bet you would look rather interesting on any party, just don't (I repeat: don't) use the hot pepper flavored ones. Quote Share this post Link to post
sunbuckus 3,567 Posted July 9, 2015 Thanks for the info, kik, asncpl, and Ebony! I was wondering, both of us have a tendency to rub our eyes, are there any ill effects when you have contacts in and you rub your eyes? As for you two, GoldCo and MrDiscover...you two are silly. MrDiscover 802 Posted July 9, 2015 I rub my eyes occadionally but never had problems. I'm wearing RGP's, could be different with soft lenses. Quote Share this post Link to post
Ebonylehigh 254 Posted July 10, 2015 I try not to rub my eyes, moreso not to mess up my eyeshadow! As long as your not pressing too hard it should be fine, I use soft lenses. Quote Share this post Link to post
asncpl 729 Posted July 11, 2015 Thanks for the info, kik, asncpl, and Ebony! I was wondering, both of us have a tendency to rub our eyes, are there any ill effects when you have contacts in and you rub your eyes There are no ill effects to rub your eyes but you may dislodge your contacts from your eyes. If my eyes get itchy, I've learned to rub gently on my closed eyelids so not to dislodge the lens. I would suggest carrying a small bottle of saline then in case the lens pop out. Mbgdallas 203 Posted July 29, 2015 As far as looks go... Glasses all the way. They give a classy sophisticated look. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
JAPrufrock 588 Posted August 3, 2015 I loved my contacts in High School. I'm blind as a bat without some sort of corrective lens. However, my eyes changed (I have severe astigmatism in both eyes) and contacts don't fit anymore. I'm in between the available prescriptions; every time I blink, the contact spins. Combine that with chronic dry eyes and it's awful. I have thought about Lasik (my sister got it done), but I actually like the look of my glasses, my face feels naked without them. Mochacino 188 Posted August 3, 2015 I will stick to my glasses thank you! I just can NOT handle anything in my eye! Quote Share this post Link to post
JB 140 Posted August 5, 2015 ...my face feels naked without them. Yeah I know right? I kinda get turned on when I remove them. Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,713 Posted May 25, 2017 Yeah I know right? I kinda get turned on when I remove them. Yeah, it is kinda sexy when someone takes their glasses off for a roll in the hay Quote Share this post Link to post
