robinandmarion 15 Posted July 29, 2015 Does anyone know what happened to swappernet.com? For several days, it showed a picture of a dildo and said they were doing maintenance, and now I just get the message that the website is not available. We were "lifetime" members there... guess it meant THEIR lifetime, not ours, lol! Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,713 Posted July 29, 2015 That's news to me that they have gone totally dark but I kind of had a feeling they were headed that way. Swappernet is part of the AFF family of dating sites, so it may be worth contacting their support just to see what kind of answer you get, but I'm guessing it will be the one you have already answered for them! divenaked 325 Posted July 30, 2015 They were changing over to a new setup and a new name. Messages were sent to members offering free membership in the new site, within a limited time frame. We did not sign up for the new site. The lifetime membership had gotten fairly worthless with paying for a "Gold" membership monthly necessary to access the entire website. BluegrassBi 15 Posted August 11, 2015 As you may know, the website Ashley Madison was hacked and some private information was leaked to the Internet. What's not been widely reported is that the owners of Ashley Madison also own Swappernet, and that the Swappernet "user table" was also leaked to the Internet It appears the Swappernet kept user passwords in 'plaintext' (unencrypted) form and that those passwords were leaked. Presumably user e-mail addresses may have been leaked, too. If you used the same password on other websites, it might be a good idea to change it. On the other hand, maybe Avid Life Media is taking this opportunity to dump Swappernet users? Quote Share this post Link to post
