MadlyInLuv 94 Posted December 2, 2017 Hi again! My wife and I posted months ago in a thread about Trapeze in Atlanta. We were interested in going in and experiencing the sexually charged atmosphere and perhaps playing with each other in the back but not playing with others. We haven't yet made it to the club, but we are seriously considering an anniversary trip to Hedo (2018 is our 20th anniversary). I was looking for ("normal")anniversary hotels in the Caribbean and literally stumbled across a promo video for Hedo. It hit me... that might be an exciting adventure for me and my wife on our anniversary. Just out of a whim I mentioned it to her, showed her the video, and she got really excited and is on board. We are still interested primarily in being with each other mostly, but I'm constantly amazed by this community and the kindness towards open minded people here. I guess that is what brings me back to reading and browsing. It's also what has brought me back to ask questions about Hedo here! Anyway... we'd like to know what we might expect if we toss our inhibitions to the side and go there for our anniversary. We are excited and interested in: Swimming naked in the oceanHaving sex around others (exhibition)Being around others having sex in the open (voyeur)Going into the playroom to have sex with each other around others (both) I'm a little hesitant to ask due to a previous response a long time ago where a member was angry that someone would want to visit a place like this (more specifically a club) and not necessarily swing. That person said non-swingers should keep out, but to be fair the group at large called him down for saying that. The thought of being around open sex and no inhibitions has us in sexual overdrive just thinking about it. Is this hotel destination good for what we are thinking about? If it is, we might have more detailed questions about the resort. Activities, how common sex is in common areas, what the playroom is like, etc. I've read accounts that range from "so much sex all over the place that they almost got overload by the end of the stay" to "not much was going on". We're trying to get a good pulse of the situation. Thanks all! From lurking I know the people here are first rate. It might be one of the friendlier groups on the internet -- no joke. Sereno & Rider 26 Posted December 2, 2017 Our first time anywhere and it was at Hedo II a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I are (were) similar to you two. After a short time at Hedo II, we did hook up with someone that we clicked with. Lots of nude people of all types and public sex. Only ONE aggressive couple that we let know that we were not interested in them and they went away. Very relaxed and non-judging. Lots of options and space. Read my post: 1st post, 1st time and WOW. We are booked to go again in March. (we hated it that much. LOL) Quote Share this post Link to post
tbone1 79 Posted December 2, 2017 Thanks to another couple, we discovered Hedo in 2011. We were not in the lifestyle at that time, and had never even been nude in public before. However, it turned into one of the best vacations ever, even though we didn't hook up with anyone else. Hedo has the best, most friendly guests anywhere, and we made so many friends and had such a great time, we didn't want to leave. We have been going twice a year since then, taking advantage of their discount. If you pay for 14 nights in a calendar year, you get 3 nights free. Trip number 15 is coming up in February. Every time we go, we see friends from previous trips, and get to know other people from all over. There is certainly a sexual vibe, but Hedo has so much more to offer than just the sex, great people, wonderful staff, good food, beautiful beach, water sports, entertainment, etc., but it is mostly about the freedom to be naked, be yourself, and have the vacation that you want. As long as you comply with the two rules, Respect, and No means No, you can do pretty much what you want to. How much open sex depends on the week and the groups that are there that week, but usually you can watch the show or be the show at the nude pool and nude hot tub. Things are often more exciting at night at the hot tub, and there is a playroom that opens at 10:30 each night. Contrary to what one poster may have said, we have never felt any pressure at all to do anything we didn't want to do or anything we were not comfortable doing. Almost everyone we have ever met has been very respectful. In the event of an incident, there are usually lots of folks who will come to the rescue, along with the security. Hedo is a clothing optional resort that is swinger friendly, but there are many people who go there that are not in the lifestyle at all. If you decide you want to go, check the Hedo website for the groups going during various weeks, and pick the one the suits you best. You will normally get a better rate going with a group. We often go with Jon's Fluffernutters, but there are many great groups with awesome people. I could talk about Hedo for hours, but as they say, "Once you go, you'll know. Good luck, and I hope you go as I'm sure you'll have a great time. Quote Share this post Link to post

So excuse me if I start pouring out questions. We'd like to get a grasp around what we can expect. I hear the Prude pool and area is a little slow and the nude side is always busier. I've also seen that you are supposed to wear clothing to eat -- fine with us. I'd feel a little distracted eating at a table naked. The nude pool. Is it calm during the day, with people mostly just laying out and sunning? Or is there sexual activity that goes on during the day there? With the playroom, I'm assuming you just walk in naked and find a place. If we aren't swinging do we just go in and find a spot and start playing with each other? How big is the hot tub that you were talking about heats up in the middle of the night? For some reason I can't get the image of one of those tiny 4 person hot tubs on someone's back porch out of my head, but I'm sure it's much larger than that. Are there multiple couples going at it there in the middle of the night? What is the frequency of MFM, FMF, and groups playing together either in the playroom or at the pool etc? This post was filled mostly with questions about the sexual atmosphere we should be prepared to experience. I'll drop another post tomorrow asking about logistics (travel), how to find out what goes on during the months we have as options to visit, how much the resort is going to set us back, etc. Thanks for the feedback! Oh...and this is hubby. I'll try to extract some questions from the wife and post them too, or direct her here to ask herself. Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh...and this is hubby. I'll try to extract some questions from the wife and post them too, or direct her here to ask herself. We had an ocean view room with hot tub on the Prude side since this was our first time and didn't know what to expect and wanted to have the options to either stay prude OR be adventurous. We found that the whole place, other then the "cattle call" to the buffet was mostly relaxed and polite. Think of a large cocktail party and mingling with a few hundred people. You know that you and they are nude but you really are talking and interacting with the person and not the nudity unless you click with the people you are talking with and the conversation and body language changes a little. As in any party, you find others that you like and some that you don't, so you kindly excuse yourself and move on. We found more polite and respectful people at Hedo then we would at a party with strangers. I guess that everyone knows the rules and are more conscientious concerning respecting others, not judging, not being pushy and being gracious when not interested in others and not being offended when they are not. We also noted that most, not all, kept their drinking at a "feel good" level but not sloppy drunk. With free booze everywhere and being offered via wait staff on the beach, we kept are intake at a very slow pace and often just having water or juice that is easy to obtain. The Prude side has the rooms set back from the beach more so you don't have people that close. Most are walking or lounging near the water. Some clothed and some nude and not much action. The hot tubs at some of the rooms can seat 6 but a little crowded. Open to the beach side so anyone can see but lattice on the 2 sides giving a little privacy. Walking clothed thru the nude side is fine but need to strip off once at your destination. Cloths in the dinning areas. Some public areas are a mix of prude/nude and a few couples being intimate but not being exhibitionist. That goes on at the far end swim up pool bar and hot tub next to it. The action at that pool and hot tub can happen at anytime. Seeing a head between legs and more at 9AM was not uncommon but I'd say, more loving. (us included.) Of course, as the booze intake increases with time so does the action. We seldom saw any obvious gawkers and the couple or group pretty much did their thing while surrounded by 20 or more people. All polite and respectful but seeing a watcher get a hard on and wife/gf start to play while watching the main event was ok too. We saw about 16 people in the hot tub at most and not crowded in. The tub is a 4 leaf clover design that worked rather well. Mostly couples but a few with others joining in. (including us.) The play room is kinda off the main paths and having to walk thru the main dining area from one approach. Most entered in cloths and greeted by a staff person in the entry area. Told to disrobe, grab towels and sheet and you enter a dimly lit room. Single mattress' on 2 sides for couples not looking for others to join them (that's up to you) and a bunch in the middle that are for those wanting to be closer to others and may be open to have others join them. Really rather relaxed in one sense but so erotic... depending on how you view the whole experience. Another room that is set up as a dungeon is available. We felt safe, secure, turned on and had NO problem having sex... several times. We brought a few of our own toys and really made this erotic with lots of sensual touching while taking our time... and watching others moving around in the dim light. Saw MF/FMF/FFM/FMFM...you get the seen. lol. When done we got dressed, put our towels and sheet in the hamper left. The roof is open so the main room is a courtyard so closed when raining. We were told that another room was available when it rained but could not find it. Can not help you with your travel plans other then customs in Jamaica is NOT quick and expect some rather unhappy customs people. We got some discounts, as first timers?, by calling and asking for them. Still not cheap but ... we are going back and feel that we again got some discounts. (But then again, most likely they do that for everyone that calls for the reservation. lol) Edit: Study the map and READ the rules on the Hedo sight. .. bathrooms are past the hot tub so always having people passing thru. A self beer tap and soft drinks area is near as well as a smoking area. So lots of people moving around near the hot tub with plenty of opportunities to meet others. (well... not in the rest rooms.. at least not us.) Quote Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted December 3, 2017 First time we went to Desires, we did a little touchy feely with others in the pool and hot tub but didn’t have sex with anyone else. The two of us played in the playroom together. We had no problems. In fact, we have been there 5 times over the years and will only played with others three of those times. They say about 20% of their customers are nudists, not swingers. I suspect it would be the same at Hedo. I would go and enjoy. Its like the food and drinks, there’s lots of it there, you don’t have to part take in all of it. Go at your own pace. Quote Share this post Link to post
Sereno & Rider 26 Posted December 3, 2017 Customs in Jamaica. As I told in another thread, we had the VIP package that we paid extra for.... that was not very VIP at all. If you have been to some other countries in the past 6 months you may need to check in at the health desk. This is at the bottom of a ramp as you enter the passport check area. If you have been to any 3rd world countries you might want to check with them before you get into the passport check line. Two lines for passport check. One is standard and the other VIP. The VIP line had around 25 people in line and the other about 150. They do have a club in the airport, https://www.prioritypass.com/en/Lounges/Latin-America-and-Caribbean/Jamaica/Montego-Bay/Montego-Bay-Sangster-Intl/MBJ1-Club-Mobay-Arrivals-Lounge that is free using.. I think American Express card. We didn't know about the Club when arriving but found waiting for departure. You also get VIP passes their. So we will skip paying for the Hedo VIP service and do it on our own. We also got the name and number of the car that drove us to/from airport and Hedo. Having Hedo arrange the car was over $100 for round trip. We call him direct and it's around $80. As in most countries, negotiating is part of doing business so don't be afraid to offer 1/2 asked price then spit the difference. Sorry that I'm a little vague of some things but my Rider was doing her thing taking care of these little details for us. Ok... next question please! Quote Share this post Link to post

And like most AIs' it was a cattle call at each opening and this was where we noted more pushy/rude people cutting in line and heaping plates leaving little for the next person. (nothing outrageous but just the typical cattle call.) Nothing to write home about but was OK. We did not get into the 3 other main dining places due to lines. We did like the little beach restaurant that had burgers and other quick items that was fast for lunch or early dinner. Getting drinks, sodas or coffee was easy and nice. tbone1 79 Posted December 3, 2017 Madlyinluv - I will try to answer your questions as honestly as possible. Obviously, not everyone is going to have the same experience or opinions due to their own perceptions and expectations, and the groups and people they have interacted with during their trip. Getting naked in public is not nearly as much as a big deal as it may seem. The very first time can be a bit stressful, but after about 15 minutes, you realize that it is very freeing and comfortable, nobody is staring at you, everyone else is naked too, nobody cares what you look like, we all have imperfections, etc. Relax, catch some rays, go to the bar for a drink, shake the hand of the person next to you and introduce yourself and make a new friend, and soon you will not even realize you are naked. While there are some who go to Hedo and do not get naked, and that is perfectly fine if that is what you choose to do, generally the prude pool and prude beach is quiet and relaxed with only a few people most of the time, and the nude beach and pool and hot tub is crowded when the resort is at full capacity because that is where the party is. The entire resort is really clothing-optional, except: you are required to be "covered" in the eating areas (other than the nude grill at the beach). However, this is interpreted loosely, and especially the ladies wear various kinds of sexy outfits to meals that show lots of skin. They all look "hot" in their sexy clothes, even though we have seen them totally naked at the beach earlier in the day. In addition to eating areas, you are to be clothed in the lobby, gift shop, and gym, but you may walk from your room to the beach naked, or wear a swim suit or coverup if you prefer. There are numerous hot tubs around the resort including small ones outside the "hot tub" rooms. Most of these are probably for about four to six people, although I have seen lots more on occasion. The nude hot tub is big. I have probably seen 50 or 60 or more people in it during the late afternoons. The nude areas are generally calmer during the day, but depending on the group, there can be a lot of oral sex going on, especially later in the day. While I have certainly witnessed intercourse in and near the hot tub, I have seen a lot more oral. Yes, there can be threesomes and moresomes at various places, including the nude pool, nude hot tub, mattresses located around the resort, and playroom at night. One of the greatest things about Hedo is being able to do what you want, make your fantasies come true. If you want to watch, go right ahead, if you don't want to watch, then don't watch. Or if you want, ask permission and join in. As mentioned above, travel day can be a bit of a drag because you just want to get to the beach, but after getting off the plane, you go straight to immigration. The lines can be long, particularly depending the time of year, time of day, and how many planes are landing at about the same time as yours. It is Jamaica, and if you want to go there'd have a great time, you have to go through immigration. You can pay extra for special treatment, which can be worth it during busy times. After immigration, you pick up your bags just like any other airport. Then you go through customs. Typically a tourist has nothing to declare, you're not bringing things into the country for resale, etc., so this is fairly painless. Next, you go to pick up your shuttle bus or taxi. It is about a an hour and 15 minute bus ride unless the traffic is bad and then it can be much longer. You can also take a small plane which is about 14 minutes in the air, but that is much more expensive. We took the plane once and the scenery is beautiful, but we usually ride the shuttle, which often results in making new friends on the way to the resort. For prices, go to the Hedo website, look for which groups are going when, contact them for quotes during different times of the year and for the various room categories. One thing we have done which is fun is the nude catamaran cruise. It leaves the dock at Hedo and sails to Rick's Cafe, a famous bar along the cliffs at the west end of Negril. Rum punch and snacks are included, and you just hang out, dance, wave to people at the other resorts, and party on the way. There is diving off the cliffs at Rick's, but I recommend just watching the Jamaicans do the diving. Let me know if you have more questions. Quote Share this post Link to post
LKNcouple 36 Posted December 4, 2017 We have not been to Hedo, but we have been to Desire RM 4 times. We are not in the lifestyle, but we like to hang out with lifestyle people and are voyeurs. All of the feedback that I have heard about Hedo is that is is like spring break. It is a party, and can be wild and lots of fun. Hedo lets single males in. Desire is a couples only resort. People that have been to both say Desire is not as wild and aggressive, it is a bit more romantic. It can be fun and wild, but no single guys. I would look at both and see what fits your interests. There is a good forum for Desire located at Desire Resort Forums ? Index page 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris&Suzanne 204 Posted December 4, 2017 For additional info on HEDO visit dennyp.com he is the travel agent we use. His website has many trip reports for you to read. I can give more information maybe tomorrow. We have been there 16 times and just got back a week ago. Quote Share this post Link to post

MadlyInLuv 94 Posted December 5, 2017 I thought about creating a separate thread about Desire with questions but decided to post here instead. Hopefully people that know will still peek in here.\ I've read Desire is a bit more expensive, but also a bit more upscale. Is that accurate? I know about the couples only. That wasn't a deal breaker for us either way since we don't plan to swap or anything. So what about the atmosphere? Visuals? I'm talking from an erotic standpoint. Part of the allure that caused us to look at Hedo was the idea of being around others having sex, playing, foreplay, etc in the open. I'm talking at the hot tubs, pools, etc. Does this sort of thing happen as often at Desire? What about the playroom? How does it compare to Hedo? We are planning to go to the playroom and play with each other while others are playing (atmosphere). I think I've communicated this accurately. Hopefully anyway. Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris&Suzanne 204 Posted December 5, 2017 We have been to HEDO 16 times. Just got back a week ago. Hedo can bee what you make of it. If you want to play with yourselves with others around that is fine.If you want to try and play with others, then ask them. We were married there. If you are looking for more upscale (whatever that means to you) then I suggest HEDO is not for you. They have upgraded most rooms and the food is better every year. The people are very friendly. It is a very unique environment. We have met life long friends, in fact we met two couples from England and one year we flew there to visit them. We stayed at their home and they showed us the sights. We see them and other friends we have met there, when we go to HEDO. Every day is different. Some weeks are geared to young swingers, some for other types of groups. We always go over Thanksgiving week, which we like, but have never been other weeks. If you are not stuck on yourself, and not afraid to say hi to people you don't know, then you'll fit right in. We have never had any issues with single men. We see very few, and most realise they went to the wrong resort if they are not a couple. The nude pool area is nude, not optional. you will be asked to remove your clothes, or leave the area. And no cameras/cell phones allowed. The rest of the resort is clothing optional. Both the nude pool and hot tub are very large, enough room for everyone. I think one day they got 360 people in there at once as a test, obviously that is not normal. Although there is sex in public, not much during the day in the pool. As evening comes, before dinner most people go to the hot tub, and more action happens there. And then back to the hot tub after dinner. They have four restaurants. General dining room, Benni Hannas style (don't know how to spell that) Italian, and a steak house. Food and booze is available somewhere on the resort almost 24 hours a day. No tipping allowed. You lock your valuables in the room safe and don't take them out until you leave. Although there is no tipping, we always bring a small gift to give to the person who cleans the room. Totally not allowed, so don't tell anyone. Not sure what else to tell you, any questions please ask. Go, get naked, relax and enjoy. Quote Share this post Link to post
GoldCoCouple 4,068 Posted December 5, 2017 We've never been to Hedo, but we have been to Desire RM and every time we have gone, we were ready to return during the trip to the Cancun airport. The reason we haven't gone to Hedo is because of the single thing...we want to meet other couples, not single anything, so we go to Desire. Public affection (sex) is sort of discouraged on the beach and around the pool, but the roof top hot tub and the play room...all bets are off. In our opinion, you can't really go wrong with Desire, although there are those who feel the same about Hedo. Only way to find out is to try them both! Report back here once you are done and let the rest of us know your thoughts. Quote Share this post Link to post

There is no nude/prude side. You have some people nude and some people not. I would say only 10% are not, and that is usually the first day, but some may stay that way the whole time. I never really have never noticed. If you want to see sexual activity, you can see it, at the hot tub or the play room. If you don't want to, do go to those places and you may be safe, however you may see something walking by a room. Quote Share this post Link to post

hkdilbert 182 Posted December 5, 2017 Another great site that just deals with Adult Travel destination (including Hedo, Desire and several others) is the Adult Travel Forums site (Adult Travel Forum - Information on clothing optional, nude, lifestyle, and erotic travel. Hedonism II, Desire, Caliente, Temptation.). You could easily spend weeks (or more) there going through the discussions just like this from people who have been to both locations. The general feeling I got was that Desire was a bit more upscale (nicer rooms and historically at least the food was better). It is also couples only and a bit more relaxed. For a great place to chill out in the nude it seems a perfect destination. On the other side Hedo is more about the people and mixing and mingling, although one could have a great time there just staying to yourselves. There are single guys there (not that many) but very rarely seem to be a problem. In our trip there based on the few we met, I would say this is a good thing rather than a negative as the ones we met were all polite and gentlemen. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. In our case we can't wait to get back to Hedo! But be sure to check out the adult travel site and jump in there - lots of great people with knowledge about many such destinations. Quote Share this post Link to post
MadlyInLuv 94 Posted December 5, 2017 hkdilbert said: Another great site that just deals with Adult Travel destination (including Hedo, Desire and several others) is the Adult Travel Forums site (Adult Travel Forum - Information on clothing optional, nude, lifestyle, and erotic travel. One problem I had trying to find out information on Desire was how slow their forum is on Adult Travel. The posts are just a few scattered across several weeks. Contrast that with the Hedo forum and it's hopping with tons of new posts every day. I'm trying to figure out if that is a reflection on how slow the resort is as well. I'd like for us to push our boundaries and do exciting things like playing while others are around and things like that... and so I'm thinking Hedo might be more atmospheric in that regard. I do like the more 'upscale' nature of Desire though -- at least in reputation. Decisions.... Quote Share this post Link to post
MadlyInLuv 94 Posted December 6, 2017 Btw: Can you take a vibrator with you? Hitachi Magic Wand? How do you get that through customs and airport security? LOL Also: do the restaurants do low-carb stuff? We are on the Keto diet. Quote Share this post Link to post

There have been may discussions over the years comparing the different places so if you go back through the older postings I suspect you'll find what you are looking for. But yes the discussions there seem to be more focused on Hedo. I suspect this is a reflection on the more social nature of Hedo and not a negative on Desire or any of the other adult destinations. Again take a look at the postings over the past few years as this topic seems to be revisited on a fairly regular basis. Quote Share this post Link to post
GoldCoCouple 4,068 Posted December 6, 2017 Those who go to Hedo spend a bunch of time talking about going, those who go to Desire, just go (all action, no talk) Can you take a vibrator with you? Hitachi Magic Wand? How do you get that through customs and airport security? Yes, yes, and just smile. You won't be the first one they have seen. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
MadlyInLuv 94 Posted December 10, 2017 Update: We have decided on Hedo. Last week of March. We are filling out passport apps now -- hopefully with enough time to have them by the trip. I'm discussing linking up with a group that is going that same week. I'm told that is the best way to go as they take care of you, etc. I contacted them and they were very welcoming of us even though we aren't exactly in the lifestyle. My wife is super excited about dressing in costume for the theme nights. Will post updates here as I have them. Thanks to everyone for the advice! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
tbone1 79 Posted December 10, 2017 Congratulations! I hope you guys love Hedo, and I'm confident that you will. Smile, be friendly and open, talk to lots of people, you'll have a great time. FYI, there are several ways to get from the airport to the resort. You can take a private 4 seater plane, which is rather expensive, but great to look around at the scenery. There are also private taxis. We usually take the Sun Holiday Tours shuttle bus. If the traffic is not too bad, it takes about an hour and fifteen minutes, but it is interesting to look around at the countryside and the towns if you have not been to Jamaica before. Plus, it is easy to meet people on the bus, who you may end up hanging out with during the week. I wish you the best vacation ever! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
MadlyInLuv 94 Posted December 20, 2017 So we are booked and airline tickets are purchased. We linked up with the Swing into Spring group the last week of March. Excited/Nervous/Turned on/Etc. What's funny is that my wife seems far less nervous than me even when we talk about having sex around others and enjoying the playroom. So yeah...it might be her helping me push my boundaries instead of the other way around. lol 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris&Suzanne 204 Posted December 20, 2017 Go, relax, be friendly. You will have fun. Join in with the group and do things on your own. Don't overdo it on the first day. On our first trip we arrived at the resort at 8AM, and we started off we didn't go to bed until about 3AM the next day. With our overnight flight (6 hours) and packing before, we were awake for about 40 hours. Pretty much wore out for the next two days. Take a few naps or get a good nights sleep the evening you arrive. Trust me you won't miss anything, like we thought we would. Quote Share this post Link to post
jnrswinger 62 Posted March 12, 2018 We are talking about Hedonism. That means Jamaica. This is not intended to apply to other Caribbean islands. Since people have asked, here’s a couple of things about arrival and departure in Jamaica. We’ve been going every year since 2006. (Not to Hedonism yet, though we have visited.) You will arrive at Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay (MBJ). It has improved 5,000 fold over the last dozen years. Used to be pretty primitive, but now it’s really nice. Be prepared. Get an immigration form on the airplane and fill it out – ONE PER PERSON, not per family like the US. And if the flight attendants try to tell you otherwise (United really need to train theirs better), just insist. When some of them tell people one per family it really screws things up and causes bottlenecks. You MUST have that form filled out before you hit the immigration hall. Fortunately there are plenty of staff checking and assisting along the way. I disagree that it is too crowded and slow in immigration – these days. It does vary some by day of the week as with any airport, so try to plan travel on off peak days if you can. And yes, as with any airport it varies with the amount of aircraft arriving at any given time. BUT it’s no worse than any of the US or UK international airports and a lot better than many of them. They have a butt load of desks and most of them are open most of the time. Also they have had self-serve kiosks for the last 3 years. So you scan your passport and answer some quick questions, it takes your photo, you get a receipt and are prescreened. (It’s a lot like a US Global Entry kiosk.) So when you get to the agent’s desk it’s a breeze. It can feel like a long time when you are standing in line and itching to get to the beach, but it really isn’t. They are actually very efficient. It is a long walk from the gates to immigration, but it still leaves places like Chicago in the dust. The “VIP” lounge. This is run by an independent private company. A friend of ours works there as it happens. It is called Club Mobay. There is also one at Norman Manly in Kingston (Club Kingston- imagine that!), but not at Ian Fleming in Ocho Rios. Yes, there are 3 international airports in Jamaica – remember that for the trivia competition at the pool! We always use Club Mobay for departure. $30 per head and well worth it. Priority security lane and a great lounge with free drinks and food, etc. (It’s by gate 12.) And as far as I know it’s the only VIP style lounge there. So unless your airline gives you passes with a first class ticket, you have to pay the $30. It is not free with any credit card or mileage card. We usually book on line well ahead of the trip or with our resort booking and they do it for us. If you leave it to the last minute you might find it is fully booked at certain peak times and not available. Regarding using them for arrival, my personal opinion is forget it unless you need physical assistance. Frankly it does not buy you much for almost twice the price (you can only get departure or both not just arrival). And there is no actual arrival lounge. By the time you have stood in a corner of the hallway waiting for your group to collect before they walk you all the way at the pace of the slowest person, you can be through immigration anyway, even with their VIP lane. Even if it is your first time, most of us know how to follow a crowd. That being said they are a great company. Customs is also a breeze, you are most unlikely to have anything to declare anyway and they have red and green lanes like anywhere else. The most we have ever had to wait is about 3 couples ahead of us – maybe a minute or so maximum. Usually it’s pretty much straight through. Once you walk out into the arrival area you will find your resort’s welcome lounge right there. Ignore everyone else, they are just trying to part you from some of your money. Anything they are peddling you can get for less later. The resort staff will be expecting you and will tag your luggage to go to the resort. As far as I am aware all the all-inclusive resorts provide transfer to and from the resort included in your booking. Apparently some people are taking private cabs and paying for it. Beats me why. We have never waited more than 10 minutes for the shuttle – which can be from a small min bus to a full size bus depending on the number of people arriving at any given time. Very occasionally it could be a car if there’s only you. All are run by reputable companies, the biggest being Juta. Tip your driver a few dollars when you get there. They humped your bags on and off the bus and probably gave you a guided tour on the way. They are not resort employees. Also the uniformed airport porters will lug your bags out to the bus and back again to the airline desk when you leave. It is customary to tip them $1 per bag. Don’t be cheap, it’s worth it and you just spent thousands on your vacation for crying out loud. It is interesting how begrudgingly cheap people can suddenly become, trying to save literally a couple of bucks. Take a beer – or two – for the ride. The resort lounges usually have refreshments. Unless you are going to somewhere close like the 3 Sandals resorts or Riu in Mo’bay, it’s going to be about an hour and a half to 2 hours ride, but the roads are good these days (unless you are going to Sandals South Coast, which is up over the top on very rural roads.) They don’t exceed the speed limits these days, so don’t expect them to. Too many speed traps. Since they legalized pot they have time to enforce other laws. A typical speed trap has both Federal and local police AND Jamaica defense force very visibly packing an M16. Not a good idea to mess with them. They try not to interfere with tourist buses unless it’s a gross violation – not good for the tourism industry which is by far THE major source of the Nation’s income. Very often they will make a pit stop about half way for restrooms and more beer or whatever. Oh yes, and of course you can take your favorite vibrator. Put them in your checked bag and you will not even get a knowing smile and wink at outgoing security. Like doctors, they have seen it all. We always have some small toys, lubes, etc. in our bags. Jamaican customs don’t care and they don’t ask if you have sex toys!! - only the usual fruits, commercial pharms, samples, firearms, etc. like anywhere else. Just don’t try to smuggle in your pet. Leave that “emotional support dog” (sure it is……) at home. BTW: While pot is freely available and basically legal during your stay, don’t try to bring any home, you will most likely either get caught leaving Jamaica or arriving home - not worth the risk and you don’t want to see what the inside of a Jamaican jail looks like. Hope this has been helpful. It has definitely got a LOT better in recent years. One last thing. It’s safe in Jamaica. There are parts of just about any big city in the world you just don’t go to unless you are stupid. Same applies. You are not going to be dumb enough to rent or drive a car yourself. Take tours and cabs ordered at the resort – not for safety but for a reputable company and reasonable price. We have gone places on our own and never had a problem. Just don’t go to the wrong places!! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris&Suzanne 204 Posted March 12, 2018 Good advice and well written. We have been there every year since 2001. If you follow the above advice you'll be good to go. Quote Share this post Link to post
PSULioness 859 Posted April 16, 2018 Trying to read all the posts to see what would be good for us. We are interested and have read different answers. We seem to be younger. We are looking to go when the majority of the people are under 40. We are under 30. We have only played with people I went to school with and their friends. No real strangers, maybe 3 degrees of separation. We have also played with my husbands best friend and his date. She is the one who said we should go. I’m not afraid of the nudity. I do need to be attracted physically to someone. Quote Share this post Link to post
