Has anyone had issues with water at Desire Resort?

We are heading to Desire in two weeks. Is the water / ice okay at the resort?

Ice is iffy but we were OK with it. We drank name brand bottled spring water and had no issues.

We haven’t had any problem with either water or ice at Desires. We try to drink bottled water any time we are in Mexico but using their ice is unavoidable more or less. Thus, we use only use the bars at Desires or other large resorts.

One thing I've learned over time: I will not do tap water outside of the United States, Canada and Europe. That includes ice and things like salad, that have been rinsed in tap water.

Have been to Desire many times as well as other parts of Mexico. The larger resorts have their own filtration systems. You can imagine the bad PR and lose of business due to water issues. I would be more worried about eating some foods but face it, even high end resorts end up with a few cases of food sickness. We always travel with Cipro. Has cut short issues a couple of times in Africa, Mexico and Europe. Just part of life. But also, never eat from a street vendor - use common sense.

7 trips to Desire RM so far and no gastrointestinal issues (knock on wood). We drink bottled water, but don't shy away from ice or salad/fruit.

 

YMMV obviously, but as others have mentioned water used in food prep is filtered on site.

Given the options, I would rather be sick at Desires than well at work (but I wouldn't worry about the water)...

We haven't need to Desire (on bucket list though!) and it has been a very long time since we've been to any of the Mexican resorts. I will pass on the advice of our orientation guide when we first went there many years ago - People sick from too much tequila? Yes. People sick from water or ice here? Should not be a problem.

 

He did go on to qualify that with not a problem on the resort, but get off the resort, then no promises made.

We were at Desire Riviera Maya (not Pearl) in early February...no issues with the water. We're been to Desire many times, along with other resorts in Cancun and Cabo and only had an issue with water once, about 12 years ago, and that was on Isla Mujeres, an island off the coast near Cancun, where most of the water comes from cisterns. I'd take Desire water over Flint water every time , but so would everyone else.

Rob was at a beach restaurant off resort where he meets with some contractor/engineer types for breakfast when we are at Playa,,,,,,,, One of the men would not order anything loudly questioning water quality and safety. One minute later, the owner/manager was at the table and invited the whole group on a tour. The restaurant has it's own water treatment system and talk about clean per Rob.... Any reputable resort and touristy restaurant has these treatment systems as they would be out of business if they didn't. Rob and I don't work at resorts at all!!! Julie
