Sawman 84 Posted February 17, 2019 Do any players use radio—CB, ham, GMRS, commercial—to meet or interact with others in the Lifestyle? I can see where the open nature of radio would argue against anything explicit, but perhaps some folks have had fun or continued having fun using radio. I use different bands in my day job and have wondered about the voices at the other end. Quote Share this post Link to post
N&G 207 Posted February 17, 2019 We've used GMRS on road trips where we were traveling in more than one car and at large areas such as at the different Smithsonian museums in DC. Channel 6-9 of course. Quote Share this post Link to post
Emt 91 Posted February 18, 2019 I have my tech license but I don't think the FCC would approve of any swinger-related dialogue unless it was coded details of a meeting place or something along those lines. I'm actually curious how it'd work effectively and efficiently to connect with other swingers through radio? I know on CB pretty much anything goes and I've heard some very colorful conversations...but nothing helpful to lifestylers. Quote Share this post Link to post

The FCC would object to obscenities in any service, but not the usual language of the Lifestyle, e.g., soft swap, house party. The issue would be the privacy of conversations so some sort of short hand would be needed. This touches upon the whole issue of somehow advertising the Lifestyle while being discrete. Right, which is why I'm curious what use radio would be other than for established relationships where there is a series of codes already established. Not sure I'd want to broadcast that I'm hosting a party or attending one if there's any chance others are "listening" which they always are. In the age of the internet, I'm not seeing a real use for radio contact specific to swinging. Disasters/SHTF situation, definitely!! Just not swinging. Quote Share this post Link to post
the Nomads 78 Posted February 18, 2019 also keep in mind that coded speak and short code if not well known could be considered a form of encryption or obfuscation that isn't allowed at least on Amateur Radio bands. Plus the fact that Call Signs are publicly accessible and easily searchable. Quote Share this post Link to post

the Nomads 78 Posted February 19, 2019 Could give new meaning to fox hunt. yes but just like every other hobby I have I'm the youngest in the crowd by about 15 years. Ham Radio, RVing, sailing, Swinging. I have no idea who I'm going to hang out with in my 60s. Quote Share this post Link to post

Gives us plenty of time to catch up, learn, and experience as far as I see it. Quote Share this post Link to post

This is not encryption and is permitted. Quote Share this post Link to post
Sawman 84 Posted February 28, 2019 Investigating further I see that there are private rooms and talk groups in digital modes that would suit adult fun. The trick would be to have visitors know the room and group numbers in advance, but that can be handled in forums like this and with email. Quote Share this post Link to post
SJBluebirds 195 Posted March 4, 2019 No. Amateur and GMRS are licensed bands^* and anyone in the public can listen-in. Even if you avoid obscenities, you're outing yourself and your playfriends. ^*Yes, there's overlap on GMRS and FRS frequencies, and you don't need a license for FRS toys. But even if you use the $20wal-mart motorolas, you're still outing yourself and your friends. Quote Share this post Link to post
