CandDinCo 69 Posted March 29, 2019 After going to our first meet and greet after being in the lifestyle for years, we discovered 3 different Facebook groups catering to lifestyle people in our area. It has been eye opening to realize how many like minded people are in our area. Just wondering how common this is across the country and how successful people have been meeting others in this way. CB&DD 218 Posted March 29, 2019 We've had good success with FB private groups. Met some play partners and good friends through them. Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris&Suzanne 204 Posted March 29, 2019 are these groups ones you have to be invited to join? Quote Share this post Link to post
CandDinCo 69 Posted March 29, 2019 They are like that island in the first pirates of the Caribbean movie. They can't be found unless you already know where it is. You have to find someone already in the group and they have to invite you into it. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
SW_PA_Couple 4,024 Posted March 30, 2019 how do you find them? You don’t find them. They find you. It is necesssary to receive an invitation from a person who is already a member. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
luv2was 117 Posted April 1, 2019 I recently listened to a podcast where "kik" & "Tumblr" were listed as "great" resources to find LS folks (once you learn how to make it work for you that way), but I have not tested that idea. This is apparently a replacement for "Craig's List", since that part of it is now dead. https://www.google.com/search?q=Kik+Messenger https://www.kik.com/about/ Kik is getting very popular, as you can use your smartphone, but do not need to give out personal information, such as your phone number. https://www.google.com/search?q=tumblr+about https://www.tumblr.com/about I wonder if there are any Meet-Up groups for alternative sexual lifestyle folks? ... Hummmmmmm...? https://www.meetup.com/ There is one "Poly" focused group in my area, which is relatively small (not a "big city"), and one potential "Swinger" group (they need an organizer). I reckon they are out there... looking around. :-) Quote Share this post Link to post
MrandMrsA 76 Posted April 1, 2019 Unless you are "out" as a swinger - I cannot for the life of me understand why you would trust Facebook. Facebook has consistently shown itself as untrustworthy. Facebook would sell YOUR soul for a dollar. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
njbm 2,870 Posted April 2, 2019 We are very private and we are not on Facebook. Agree with previous poster, do not trust them. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
GoldCoCouple 4,065 Posted April 2, 2019 Facebook would sell YOUR soul for a dollar. I disagree...they'll take for much less than that. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,713 Posted July 3, 2019 Hoping to get more input on this... Say there was another site, we'll say SwingersBoard.com, that had groups. You could make the groups open to all, hidden to all, or something in between, like the existence of the group itself is visible but one isn't granted admittance to see anything until they ask to be admitted and the group organizer approves them. Inside the group you could post pics, messages, your own private group forum. So, you could just chat with each other, organize events, and so on. If you so choose, your group content could also be cross-promoted in the main site forums, thereby hopefully driving more members and group activity. Before someone points out that we already have Social Groups on this site, yes, we do, and that feature sucks, which is why we've never promoted that part of the site much, and on mobile, it doesn't even exist. What do you think, fruitless exercise, won't be able to pull a soul away from Facebook. Or, something worth pursuing? mrs cplnuswing does FB, I'm one of the eight people left on Planet Earth that doesn't. No way in HELL am I doing anything swinging-related on FB...but maybe it's just a few of us in that tiny minority?? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lionheart72 2,190 Posted July 3, 2019 What do you think, fruitless exercise, won't be able to pull a soul away from Facebook. Or, something worth pursuing? You won't pull a soul away from Facebook... but you may attract those of who won't participate in a swing group on Facebook, like say me. It would really depend on what the groups had to offer over the forum generally. I like the idea of having a private place to post pics that won't be seen by everyone, and a place to have a small community within this larger community. I'd love to find a group of like minded folks (D&D and swinging anyone?) and maybe even a group of some geographically adjacent folks. Quote Share this post Link to post
Manitobacpl 81 Posted July 3, 2019 Geographically adjacent... yes that would work on here .. be nice to know if any single males were in our area ?.. is that possible to do on here ?? Quote Share this post Link to post

It would really depend on what the groups had to offer over the forum generally. Yes, I didn't word that quite right. I don't think it would take pulling people away from Facebook for it to be worthwhile, just getting those who would like that kind of feature, but who won't do in on FB, to do it here. The idea would be you've got an interest in X,Y, or Z, then start a group. You host a monthly meet and greet, then start a group to announce parties, keep touch with each other, make plans, etc. If it worked well, together with an event calendar and club/event listings/reviews, maybe eventually you would get a few coming from FB. Geographically adjacent... yes that would work on here .. be nice to know if any single males were in our area .. is that possible to do on here ?? No, not right now unfortunately. Even in the future, I think geo aspects would have to just be from the group name (i.e. North Florida Swingers) or whatever, not like a map that shows's member's locations or whatever. Good idea worth exploring more though. As long time members may remember, this site used to have a lot more features than it does now. Those were all provided by add-on's to the main software though, and as it has gotten past it's useful lifespan, software conflicts have made us drop several of those things. It's way past time to try to address that and get us back where we need and want to be. Not an easy or cheap thing to do though... Thanks for great input so far, please keep it coming!
