Hot tubs are big in the Pacific Northwest. In the south skinnydipping was more our thing, ditto with walks on the beach at night.

What's it about hot tubs that I just don't get?

We seldom use our hot tub in the summer months. When it's hot outside and you sink into hot water, you start sweating. But in the winter months, when it's colder than the forties and the water is about 104 degrees, it's great.

The best part of it is the orgasm jet, strictly for women.

If the water is properly maintained, Roxy, there are no microorganisms in it. I check ours daily, adjust the chemical balance (ph) of the water and change it when needed. That depends on the amount of use it's had.

Today it was full of teenagers, half of them girls, the other half our sons (wearing swim suits, mind you). Tomorrow I have to change the water. I'm not sure if I want that to continue. I'll have to chat with the boys and make some rules. But what rules to make???

I really enjoy hot tubs especially when I have one of those great big thick terry robes to wrap around me as soon as I get out. It just makes me feel as if I'm lying in the lap of luxury. Followed by a glass of wine, of course.

I can't say I've had any multiple-partner hot tub experiences (yet) but find that there is nothing more relaxing than coming home from work and enjoying a visit to the hot tub. Of course, just the relaxation alone can get you in the mood for lot's more fun! And remember, those terry robes come with easily undone sashes.

Skinny dipping and walking on a beach? Gosh...that sounds wonderful, but some of us are land-locked with nary a beach in sight. But for a vacation spot that would be grand.

I imagine that in the Pacific Northwest they have to have hot tubs as the weather isn't always conducive to skinny dipping or beach walking. But as they say: "When in Rome..."

It's a funny thing...RedRobin, Sir Mike and I would often daydream about staying in on cold, cloudy rainy days and enjoy the romance of it. You know sip some hot chocolate and hang out in our footed jammies. :) But we have noticed that the weather here doesn't faze the locals who'll just walk around sans brellies letting the rain fall on them... We live on a lake here and we see no sense hopping into a hot tub outside when you can just get on the pier and take the swim ladder down into the water for a soak.

Well, maybe two months out of the year you can take a swim...

So maybe that explains the hot tub better but I certainly can't jump in when it's 37 degrees out. Perhaps I should jump into the tub for a bubble bath more often than not. There are some kewl bath bombs in stores around here. Hey! I, too like big, thirsty terry cloth robes. I often hop out of the shower and stay in it until I force myself to get dressed. ;)

Where in the Southwest are you?

I've enjoyed hot tubs a few times but I'm mostly a beach person and I love the ocean! You can't beat the sound of the surf at night with a full moon ;)Of course sand can get in places that isn't too comfy.

Thats when I head to the lake

We love the beach also but I think the hot tub thing is nice since you can have it in your back yard where the

neighbors can't see you and you can make a quick trip to your bedroom afterwards.

I thought girls/woman before the age of 15 shouldn't be inside a hot tube anyways? Doesn't it have to be under a certain temperatures or time limit?

The only thing we know for sure about who can and can not use a hot tub are extremely young children and persons with diabities. Pregnant women should not be in them either. From what I understand it is because with the very young, they can't regulate their body temp. like an older person can. And for the diabetic... it has something to do with their circulation. Extremely hot water for a pregnant woman can cause all sorts of complications.... for one I've heard it can even bring on contractions. We have had my 2 year old nephew in ours with no problems.... he absolutly loved it! We keep our tub anywhere from 102 - 106 degrees. It's not that much above normal body temp. and it's just fine as long as you don't stay in it for hours at a time. Though.. I do tend to stay out in it for long periods of time during the winter months... something about being outside naked in the tub with the snow falling down on you is sort of surreal:cool:

I had some friends up north that had a hot tub and there was nothing better than sitting in the hot tub outside with a group of 6 or 8 of your closest friends while the snow was falling around you.

As much as I would like to have one they just don't seem like they would be as fun here in the warm weather.

I really love my hot tub and I use it year round outside. I am usually alone in it, and while I would often prefer this not to be true, my wife is less likely to take the few steps into the cold to get to the hot water. We do not do a lot of sexual activity in the tub, but the jets are a nice warmup when the mood strikes. She says they are like a vibe for her. I have found a bit of fun in this as well.

I also really love to lie back and listen to the music of the night while admiring the night sky.

The only thing that keeps me inside is wind, and this is an a rea that got 180 inches of snow this season. In the winter it is 104, summer 100-102. We suffer greatly going from the pool to the hot tub in the summer.

Keeping the water clean is something very easy once you know how to do it, and with the right system and a little chemistry, minimal use of chemicals is needed.

An ozone generator kills most of the microorganisms as well. Chemicals are added after use and periodic shocks polish the water up to keep it very safe and clean.

One more thing, alcohol can be an issue in a tub as the dilation of blood vessels can make a blood pressure drop more likely. This could result in a faint if not careful.

Hot tubs sound like a great idea, whether they're used for simple relaxation, for socialising or for more adult diversions. And the idea of soaking in warm water whilst watching the snow fall around you really appeals! Unfortunately, we have little in the way of a view from our gardens, not much in the way of privacy from our neighbours, and little in the way of good snowy weather!!!

All in all, we shall almost certainly have to continue envying all of you regular tubbers!

Sorry I missed this post when you made it, Mich149. Edit: ...and now I see Turnuptheheat beat me to the answer. :)

Our hot tub is older than our sons. Before they were born, Mrs. Alura (who thinks she got pregnant in the hot tub. :) ) asked her ob/gyn person, who told her to keep the temperature below 100 degrees and not to stay in long while she was pregnant.

The doctor also told us babies should not use a hot tub because their bodies' "thermostat" has not yet developed enough to control their body temperature.

I think they started using the tub at four or five. We've not had any problems. They're pretty healthy. :)

Ok cool, I was just making sure because a hotel around us has a adult & a kid hot tub and the kiddies one is keep under 100 degrees and for no longer then 15 minutes.

maybe one day we can get one, I'm rebuilding the deck next year maybe a can work a hot tub in. But then I would need to add high fences. Don't want the neighbors getting a show. lol

Coming from MI, hot tubs are a huge thing, because of the cold. Almost all the hotels around that area have them with the pool and in your room. When i first came down to TX to spend time with my hon i couldn't believe that I couldn't find a hotel room with a hot tub in the room!! Then he came to visit me in MI and I made sure we got a room with one in it. Have to agree that they can be a whole lot of fun...for many many reaons... ;)

Our tub is outside and in year round use. In the winter, it is 104 degrees and I turn it down a few degrees (102) in the summer. The pool is around 85 in the summer, just a few steps away.

In the winter, the pool is considerably cooler, but then I can walk on water..... :)

The Mrs. has fibromyalgia and we got the hot tub for medical reasons. The warm water and jets relax her muscles so it is easier for her to get to sleep. She uses it almost every day and that is the main reason we bought a hot tub. However, being naked (house rules) in the hot tub with some close friends and a plastic cup of wine (I know Sluttywife that plastic is not proper etiquette for wine but it is much safer) is about as relaxing as one can get. It can and has led to some truly heated fun.

As turnuptheheat says it's very simple to maintain. We keep our temperature setting at 101. Here in Austin, winters last about one day but it gets hot in July and August. It is really nice to get into the hot tub when it is cold outside (ours is just outside the door on the patio). We like to watch the stars and talk about anything and everything. Your body is so warm that you don't really feel any cold unless there is a good wind.

Personally I don't care much for hot tubs. Here in OK it is way too hot to use it in the summer! But mainly the reason I don't like them is b/c when I sit in them I feel like it is harder to breathe. So if I sit on the side of them it is ok. But when I sit all the way inside, it feels like too much pressure on my chest.

OK, I had to chime in here, because this is a 'most favorite memory' for me. There has never been anything more erotic in my life than sitting on the edge of the immense hot-tub at Hedonism II and getting some oral stimulation from my wife, and she pops up and says... "Having fun?" I will remember that till I die. Since then I have had this craving for a hot tub up here at home (NY) but we can not afford to put it in the only place that would be private enough. In addittion, the wife would have to put on a snow suit and a parka to go the 100 ft to this location in the winter :( Oh well, maybe some day...

I had never enjoyed a hot tub because every one I had been in had been 105 degrees and that was just miserable to me. But, recently I was in one that was set on 100 degrees and I spent hours there and am now looking for one to buy. There is nothing like it.

Where I used to live (Massachusetts) there was a business that rented out hot tub suites.

It wasn't a hotel-- You would just book a tub room by half hour blocks.

The rooms were beautiful and each had a unique theme. Like: Arabian Nights, Tropical Paradise, Ocean Theme, ect...

The tubs were large and you could fit quite a few people in them. :D

We use our year round and it's inside it's own private, glass room. Wonderful place for everything except intercourse. The natural wetness washes away and it makes it rough to do well. Oral is great though as all is freah and clean.

Foam? Check you chemicals and make sure you have an ozonator. You should not be getting foam if the chemicals are correct and water is clean. The hair can be avoided buy shaving facelick Tastes better that way too!

Kids, small ones can be in but for only a few minuites. We also keep ours at 101F to make sure they are OK. We get in, they want in. Ours have been in since they have been 2.

We do LOVE the beachs ate Hedo II and would love to be near a beach but alas, none to be found near here.

If you have these problems, you are not maintaining your tub correctly. Minimal effort and few chemicals keep the water crystal clear, odor and froth free.

The visualizations above would keep me out of a tub as well.

If you're using chlorine, try switching to bromine. I once asked a salesman at the pool and spa store to explain the difference between chlorine and bromine.

"Well," he replied, "Bromine isn't as harsh on the skin and things just sort of slide better with bromine..."

That was several years ago and we've been using bromine ever since. :) We also started using baquacil in the pool for those reasons and ease of maintenance.

We're going to move our spa on Friday to the other end of the veranda where it's darker and more private. We've considered glassing in that part of the veranda but we prefer to use it in cold weather. It's great when it's snowing. That happens maybe twice a year here. :(

That's really awesome, you're right. On one trip to 'our' cabin in November, it snowed. Sitting in the hot tub, warm as toast, while the flakes swirled around us was an almost surreal experience. Little icicles formed on our wet hair, but we didn't care.

It's fun too, to jump out and stand naked in the cold wind, at least for a few minutes. But, hey, you can always jump back in again! :)

Has anyone here ever been in a tub where the owner was trying to save heating money and kept the temperature below 100? It was the weirdest thing for me when I was in it. They kept the temperature at 98 and I was SHIVERING (not for any good reason). I couldn't have any fun in there.

Well, here in the NW we love our hot tubs. Ours is for quiet times (almost religious) and play times with a small group. For us, it is only an ice breaker (no pun intended) because sex is very difficult because of the drying effect on the female parts of the hot water. I have been told that intercourse can happen but we prefer to use it as foreplay. Our house rules are no textile in the hot tub. This rule can bring a shy person to the right frame of mind. Meaning "I could never go naked with other people but it is the rule, so I have to."

We know how to keep the chemicals correct and ours is always crystal clear and free of nasty stuff. We love ours.

Like a scared turtle, alive!

If the wind is blowing, I am faster than lightning.

One tradition I hold to, is that I will be in the tub in the 1st major snow, wind or no.

Hot tubs are great for ice-breakers to take the clothes off, but I (male) get to relaxed in them. After sitting in a hot tub for more than ten min I just want to chill out and relax. When that happens my unit wants to be relaxed also. So I rather get some sex first then do the hot tub to relax. Women...I think can go either way, but "K" feels a pain in her crotch the next day after sitting in a hot tub for a while.

Wouldn't hot showers be as fun?

Living in the upper midwest, winter nights, bottle of wine, nothing like it in the world. There are two key elements. First of all maintaining proper chemical balance. This is quite easy once you are use to it. Second is temperature. We keep ours at 100 to 101. Any warmer than this and eventually your body needs to cool down, typicall after 30 to 50 min. This will have an impact on your performance :)

Also it is quite nice to have outdoor speakers to listen to some great music.

We love our Hot Tub, and as others have said proper maintenence is the key. Anytime I see it out of balance it is off limits until I can bring it back or dump it and start fresh. Another thing we do, anytime we rent a cabin elsewhere I take my chemical strips and check the water and add what I need to to balance it. Alot of places will just add water and no chemicals.

We have an in-ground hot spa and I'm always in it but I'll admit it....

Being a Maine pusscat living in exile in Florida, I turn the heat off to be frugal. So the spa is on vacation at the moment during the Florida 'winter'. It still gets the chemicals it needs but I'll wait until the temperature goes up on it's own before I skinny in!

My s.o. has yet to get in it after 2 years (haven't a clue why)...but I'm hoping our playmates will encourage him to do so.

We love our hot tub; for relaxing, for play, for what have you. We keep it fairly cool in the summer, so that is acutally very refeshing. Easier to maintain than pool. Ours is big enough you can float in it. We like to out in the tub by ourselves and talk about the week. Other than occasionally having to replace the water after the kids get in it, it's a fairly painless luxury. -- Bunny

We seldom use our hot tub in the summer, Bunny, but it may be because we keep it too hot. What temperture do you keep your's at?

Our teens can make a fresh, sparkling tub of water look like the water in the Trinity River in minutes. :rollseyes One time they were in the tub with some friends. Other friends were on the trampoline. Some were in the pool. They were trading places, running through dirt in between. That practice has been outlawed. :)

We put one on our patio the day we moved into our new home in October. Needless to say this winter has been quite exciting and the only time the neighbors complained is when we put the privacy fence around it.

We use baquaspa in ours and find it fairly simple and easy to use. The only trouble we have with it is the hard water we have in the region but otherwise everything is fine.

We are looking for a clothing optional sign to hang by the tub. Can't wait to see the reactions from the neighbors when they see that.

So, not ENTIRELY new, but not experienced either. Two swinging experiences under our belt and loving it.

We were contemplating having a not new to the lifestyle but new to us couple over to our house on a weekend. We hang out and have a bonfire and just drink and BS, it's our version of bliss.

We have a clean house, liquor, plenty of condoms, water bottles... What else should a good host have? Appetizers? Music? Towels lol?

Seriously though, we're nervous for our second first date in 15 or so years. Any advice or stories appreciated. Thank you.

Hot tubs and swingers go together. That said, swingers who are fortunate enough to have hot tubs use them for more than playtime.

If you own a hot tub, how do you find yourself using the hot tub when not playing with others? Is it simply hydrotherapy? Do you entertain vanilla friends as well? Is it a safe space where you feel comfortable talking about things with your partner (or friends) that might feel awkward discussing somewhere else? More generally, what draws you to your spa other than entertaining other LS folks?

DH and I have been in the lifestyle for quite a while and always wanted to play in a hot tub but was always worried we would catch something since hot tubs are full of weird things.

My wife and I are relatively  new to swinging but we have found a great couple and we both have explored our bi side to the extreme with them. My question is we have these friends  visiting us from across the country for a sex vacation. We have rented a nice condo in lake Tahoe with a hot tub. What are some fun games to play in the hot tub to get the mood and fun going?
    • By TeamCalgary
So, we are contemplating hosting our first house party and we are in a quandary!

We have been to house parties in the past and think we have an end goal in mind - but how do we get there!

Our concerns revolve around the following:

      1. guests - who do you invite (couples you have played with, couples you have met, couples you are hoping to meet) etc?
Our thinking is that the event is likely not the optimal venue for meeting another couple for the first time, especially being the hosts we will
likely be distracted in performing our hosting duties. Do we encourage guests to bring along other couples unknown to us?

      2. environment - we have been to house parties in the past and they have been all over the map in terms of the mood/environment created.
It is our intent to create a welcoming, no pressure atmosphere that will encourage socializing, and, perhaps, lead to more.
Everyone knows why they are there but at the same time, no one should feel pressure. How to best do this from a physical perspective
(room layout, furniture) to allocation of space (making private, closed door areas available).

      3. pacing - creating a "flow" to the evening that encourages people to feel comfortable and act out on their desires. We don't want this to feel
contrived or artificial (such as telling everyone its time to now do move the other room and take your clothes off etc).

Those of you with experience in this area, we would welcome your input please.

      Many thanks.
