That exact same thing has happened to us at Gunnison. In our case it was my wife's male coworker (and his wife). Like you, we made pleasant conversation and tried not to be obvious while checking each other out.

The good news is that nudists and swingers tend to respect one another's privacy and discretion. Our encounter was pre-pandemic so my wife did have to face her coworker at work the next day but things didn't feel awkward and the encounter was never discussed in front of others (although sometimes he would privately ask if we planned on going some summer weekends).

These encounters do sometimes happen, and when they do you have the same "dirt" on them as they have on you. Only a real asshole would "out" you to fellow friends and coworkers.

Gunnisons is a very very popular beach, on any given day there are tens of thousands of nude bathers are going to be there. Expect the unexpected! The more we go the more we see people we know. OMG what are you doing here? The first time you see someone you know you don’t know how to react. It gets to be normal. Some are just acquaintances, some are vanilla friends you had no idea enjoyed being nude and some will be people you know from work. Odds are you will see someone you know.
If you live in NJ/NY and are active in swinging you will see someone, just like you will see people you know in a supermarket, a mall, or any other place you go. Bumping into someone when nude is a so what occurrence for us. It has led to some fun times.

We ran into my wife’s then boss at a nudist resort. A lawyer who I saw often in court was with his wife at a Tantric sex workshop we attended. It’s a small world. Everyone has to be somewhere.

We call the concept of outing other swingers and nudists “ mutually assured destruction.” If someone outs us, they are outing themselves. They had to be there to see us there. Most people don’t want people to know they are nudists and/or swingers.

As already indicated, she probably wants to keep this a secret as much as you probably do. You both have a sexy secret to keep, but it is a secret and must be kept. Don't even mention it to her (and never to anyone else) unless she brings it up. Honesty among thieves and secrets among nudists (and swingers).

I simply don't understand why people want to keep 'I'm a social nudist' a secret. Swinging, yes, but what clothes you choose to wear (or not wear,) simply shouldn't be an issue IMHO.

That's because you're a freethinking Libertine in a world of hypoctricital, judgemental moralists.  As has been stated here before, you will be judged less harshly if your neighbors believe your wife to be merely unfaithful, rather than think you're both swingers.

As for us, we don't mind telling vanilla friends about our occasional trips to the nudie beach, and it's not uncommon for some people to act completely shocked even by that.

Because it goes against what the majority (right or wrong) of the people view as 'acceptable behavior'. Senior management is expected to set an example and conform to the greater public's 'norms'. In many cases they will even have morals contracts for their job and something even as innocent as this could be taken as grounds for termination. It's not we we (in this board) believe and feel, but what is perceived by the greater 'everyone' as what is acceptable.

When we lived in Monmouth County and it seemed appropriate in the course of conversation with vanilla friends Kathy and I might mention that we sometimes went to Gunnison. Very one knew about the beach and no one was shocked at the thought that people they knew might have been there. I think most of our friends would put it in the category of skinny-dipping, discrete nude hot-tubbing or group sauna — mildly titillating but nothing more.

We occasionally took friends visiting from out of town to Gunnison. They seemed to enjoy it, at least as a one-off experience.

I knew it was inevitable that we would eventually see someone we knew, we are always crossing paths with people on trips. We saw friends in Rome, what are the odds.
We are in NYC and constantly see people at shows, parks and stores. A nude beach is different. If we met a friend or a neighbor it would not have been upsetting. Meeting a woman I work with is funny, enjoyable. I wonder what she was thinking. I won’t bring it up at work, I hope she does. It could change the work relationship for the best.

LOL! We could not agree more! What's to "out"??

Why do so many responders mistakenly link naturism with swinging? They have nothing in common. Naturism has nothing to do with sex. It is simply being in a natural (aka clothes-free) state. Anyone who spends time in a naturist environment learns that fact very quickly.

Naturism, however, is not to be confused with spending time at an adult-themed resort such as Hedonism or Desire, places that cater to people in the lifestyle and intentionally create a sexually charged atmosphere for adults.

As for any embarrassment... If you're going to spend time being nude in a public place that is fairly close to home, common sense says there is the possibility, if not probability, that you're eventually going to meet someone you know. If that notion horrifies someone, they should probably rethink things before they take off their clothes.

As people who have spent most of their adult lives as naturists, the notion of being embarrassed about it is alien to us. Not only don't we keep it a secret, we literally ADVERTISE that we are nudists. Lol... We keep a personalized plate on the front of one of our SUVs that supports our favorite nude beach in all of Florida!

And, yes, of course we have met people we know. What do we do when that happens? We act like we would in any other social situation. "Hi, nice to see you. Great day to be on the beach! Waves are perfect today. We're sitting under the blue umbrella over there and have a cooler full of snacks and drinks. Feel free to stop by for a bite or something cold to drink. We'll be here to about two." And so on.

The fact that we are all nude is no big deal unless somebody makes it a big deal. And those are not the kinds of people who practice naturism in the first place.

I both agree and disagree.

Yes, there is no doubt that senior level executives are held to different standards, with some even having employment contracts that specifically spell out they can be terminated for immoral behavior.

However, there is not a court in the land that would equate naturism with immorality. Attending a public beach that the local government has established as lawful naturist environment would never result in a lawful termination. In fact, in my home state, Florida, there is a specific law that protects naturists.

However, if a senior level executive came to me and asked my advice about going to a naturist beach in his/her home town, as a practical matter, I would  recommend against it. Why? While the law may be on her/his side, public opinion will not be. And, rightly or wrongly, employment is as much a matter of politics as it is policy.

And in this nauseating age of the Cancel Culture Gestapo, where everyone's rights and reputations can be trampled underfoot at merely the *accusation* of possible wrongdoing, it's not a risk worth taking. Being nude in the company of a co-worker, particularly a subordinate, would create the obvious potential for a problematic result.

Of course, when they terminate you, they most likely won't tell you it was because you were seen nude in public, just that your 'services are no longer required'. Most jobs are still 'at will' employees and most companies (especially HR...aka lawsuit prevention and not anything about providing resources for humans) knows how to avoid making those missteps. As said, it's no longer guilty by proof, but guilty by accusation.

This past summer (July of 2021) a female went out to Hippie Hollow and had her pic taken out there and someone that recognized her pic reported the pic of her to her workplace and the woman was placed on administration leave.  She was just a clerical worker in an office for an independent school district.  She had no contact with students.

I had to Google Hippie Hollow to see it was in Texas. Texas has taken a strange turn with new restrictions on personal freedoms recently. From what I read, nudity is legal at that park so if she was fired she would have a case. Of course the BOE will find other reasons to legally suspend her.
I am back to working at the office as is the coworker I met at Gunnisons. No comment was made from either of us. I would like to add thousands of people go to this beach every day during the summer. It is not a swinger beach, it’s people enjoying the sun and surf life any regular beach. She knows what I know being we were both there. Possibly we will both be there again in a few months.

We have never been to a nude beach or other nude venue. What is the usual ratio of women to men?

Depends on the day you go, but there are always more males than females out at Hippie Hollow and we like to go to Haulover Nudist Beach in Florida.  At both Hippie Hollow and Haulover there are large numbers of gay males that like to hang out at certain places on the beach.  So that kind of messes up the numbers.  On the straight sections of the beach it is probably 3 males to 1 female ratio.  I have been a nudist for thirty something years and I have always enjoyed having lots of guy friends.

If you are in NJ the nude beach has a cross section of people similar to a clothed beach but not many families. When we go we sit with other couples and don’t take a count of any ratios.
Yes, there is a “gay” presence, so what. Nude beaches are not hook up beaches, mostly everyone just enjoys the freedom of nudity. Don’t expect to see any sex on the beach. Do expect to see some gawkers. Don’t be a gawker or a schmuck.

Usually, the person placed on leave would be told of another reason they are on leave (or terminated), however, with school districts it is not uncommon to have to sign a 'morality clause' that WOULD allow someone to be suspended or terminated for things like this. Sad, and stupid that they can do things like this, but they can. Take it from a couple that works for schools.

I've been nude with co-workers several times, but always in Europe where the reference frame is different, and mostly with the couple(s).

A couple of mates and I were returning from fishing off Sydney heads, we decided to stop off at Lady Jane beach, anchored the boat off the beach, stripped off and swam ashore, walking along the beach with the mates and a woman's voice called out "hi Ricky Strong" looking to see where the voice came from I seen my best mates sister inlaw who we did socialise with at parties, we started chatting and were soon joined by her husband.

Nothing was ever said to the mate and his wife, Mum was the word.

PS I enjoyed our conversations with her in a different light after that meeting.

A comment on the thread/poll about same vs. separate rooms reminded me of a question that's been on my mind--in your experience, what tends to happen when one pair finishes having sex in same-room play? Does the other pair feel pressure to finish up?

Edited to add: Yeah, I know someone's always going to finish first, barring wild coincidences. But I couldn't think of a better way to put it.

A non-lifestyle co-worker asked me how do you not stare when on a nude beach? She knows I sometimes go to a nude beach, she wants to go to one and doesn’t know how to act.

Without telling her major details I told her we went to our first naked beach with people we just met on a cruise. Both couples were attractive fully clothed. Both claimed it was their first time. I tried not to look even though you just have to. I admit even though being straight I had to look at the women too.

Told her to wear dark sunglasses. I told her if you are like me it is difficult not to look. I even find myself looking at people who aren’t attractive. I said she will see many more unattractive bodies than people who are models. Very very few perfect bodies.

Where do you look? Am I the only one looking at genitalia? Male and female? I honestly don’t think about sex outright. I might look at men as sexually attractive and jealous of women with flat bellies.

Would you go to a nudist beach? Why would you go?

So Mr G and I are 'beach babes'. We frequently spend our weekends with our children on a beautiful secluded, tucked away beach with miles of wild coast line. When ever we invite friends (vanilla) friends to join us they always say...that's a nudist beach!!! We have never seen 'the nudist' part, we've always been busy playing with our kids along the shore with the other beach-goers...I actually thought it was a myth...

So last weekend I'm walking along with the shore with my brother-in-law, deep in conversation, when after about 20 minutes of walking we look up and realize that we have strayed from home, yes everyone around us is in the buff...

Oops we say to ourselves with cheeky smiles and turn back to return to our family and friends about 1km back along the shore.

When we return I say to my husband and friends...guess what we found? Mr G finds this amusing and says "really, let's go for another walk and check it out". So off me and Mr G go again...before we leave our family and friends we ask cheekily, does anyone want to come with us...to which one of our friends says "absolutely not, I don't want to go and look at people naked". I replied, "we're not going to look at people. People don't go to a nudist beach just to look at people naked. They go to feel free, liberated, and natural."

      Or do they?

I personally think there's nothing sexier that laying around in the sun, teasing Mr G, naked, covered in oil, tanning my white triangles while He lays next to me getting really turned on but not being able to do a thing about it...

Maybe because it is the climate we live in, here in northern Australia (i.e. tropical) but a good number of our swinging friends are naturists/nudists, as indeed we are.

The freedom of enjoying the outdoors sans clothing has certainly enhanced our swinging experience; we have met several couples and singles at our local (legal) free beach, sometimes engaging in activity right there at the beach or in the bush which backs our beach. Or we go home with our new friends.

The only problem is, like at so many nudist beaches, is the large number of men who seem to be voyeurs. They are not even nudists, but they are seen hiding behind trees clothed but with exposed genitals.

We have swung with guys we have met at the beach but only those who are nudists and whom we have approached. Only once have we accepted an offer from a single male who has approached us.

In light of recent conversations about intimacy, I thought these videos would be interesting. They're still fairly guarded, but as open as they can be with someone they don't know. These are strangers really undressing and kissing one another, and the awkwardness is almost painful to watch. But once they let go, you can see that moment I was talking about, where you get to see another human being in all their (nearly) naked glory. It's a very cool experience. For me, this is what swinging is all about! They're promoting swinging without even realizing it.
