Hi,

on this forum I read a lot about birth control when swinging. I would like to know if you already used a method with a commonly high failure rate, when having sex during swinging. (this poll is not related to sex with your own wife or husband)

Or do you ALWAYS use rather safe methods like the pill, or a combined method like condom combined with withdrawal?

We always use condoms. There have been times when we have been with couples mainly Truck has had women who wanted to either suck him off, or have him cum on them, but still a condom was used.

Did you (sometimes) use ONLY condom for Birth Control, or was it in combination with the pill or another Birth Control method?

Depending on who we were with.

We used condoms for birth control, and depending on who we were with, sometimes the woman of the other couple might have been on the pill also.

Hubby has had a vasectomy but I still take the pill. We also use condoms sometimes. Never can be to safe.

The wife is on the pill, I however am shooting live rounds.

We use condoms mostly, but we swing with a couple of couples who are "fixed" so we go bareback. The wife will sometimes go bareback with a guy who is firing live rounds if she REALLY likes him and she is reasonably sure that he is clean.

I'm fixed (via Vasectomy) and she's on The Pill. We also use condoms with everybody except two other couples, and we only go bareback with them because their hubbies are fixed as well and we know then pretty well.

I am on the pill, and we Always us protection with any penetration. I know there are some who don't like using condoms, but every time you play with someone who don't use them is another chance you are taking at picking up something unwanted. Everyone says they are honest and don't have or haven't ever had a VD, but you can't take everyone's word for it.

We have never had any diseases and don't ever want any. We want to enjoy this lifestyle and be as healthy as possible. We always get tested every 5-6 months just to be on the safe side. I also puts your mind at ease!

You can never be too careful!

Vasectomy for me, menopause for her. Birth control isn't the issue. STDs are the issue. So it's condoms until/unless we know a couple exceptionally well and they become "regulars."

For health reasons (hypothyroidism), D.E. doesn't use any chemical birth control. We only use condoms and, because we still may have children, I'm intact.

Hi, with hubby we use condoms for birth control and sometimes we use the withdrawal method. With other couples we nearly always used condoms if he was not fixed; with the exeption of some rare occasions in which I really trusted my swinging partner to withdraw in time and went bareback.

I'm have an IUD, but that is just so that I don't get pregnant. We always use a condom for any vaginal penetration. I don't like them for oral, and we only do anal together, so that's not an issue.

We are both surgically fixed so birth control isn't the issue. We always use condoms because STDs are the issue.

Just a side note . . . some of you mentioned using and IUD . . . I got pregnant with an IUD. A little heads up warning there.

A question for the ladies...when you say that you are "fixed", what does that mean for you ? What kind of procedure can you get done ? I am interested in any info that you can pass along to me. The only thing that I've ever heard of for women is a hysterectomy. I don't know anything about it, really and as I understand it, it's not something that doctors do much electively anymore.

I'm not a lady but I think the most common elective form of female sterilization is having your tubes tied or tubal ligation. Mrs. Gt recently had it done, the doctor makes a little incision Usually in the naval (belly button, if you grew up where I did) and in her case he inserts a laproscope with a laser and cauterizes the fallopian tubes.

I had a hysterectomy, hubby is fixed too. Ladies can get their tubes tied and done like the men. But that does not always work, I know a lady that had twins after she had her tubes tied. I would say the best thing is not to have the parts.

Southern Lady, I have to agree with you on that. The only thing that will truly set my mind at ease and allow me to freely engage in play (and that includes with my husband) is to "not have the parts." I'm sure that we will always use condoms with others, but it sure would be nice to not have to with him when we're alone and not have to worry about getting pregnant. Has always been a HUGE issue for me. I think it has kept me from having as much fun as I could have in the past.

This was an interesting topic since I have wondered what others do about birth control too. I know its a big issue for me and is always on my mind. My husband is not fixed and I am not either. I dont take the pill anymore bc it caused me to have elevated tryglicerides. So I went off in September. Now the question is: Do I feel safe enough with just the condoms? I sometimes worry about that. I mean peopke have become pregnant before due to incorrect condom use as well as breakage! I dont ever ever want to be faced with a pregnancy and not know whos baby it is. That is one of my biggest fears. One time we got carried away 2 years ago during a full swap encounter. I wound up letting the guy go bareback and my husband thought that he saw the guy cum in me. I was not sure since I had been drinking. So the next day we called my gyn and got a morning after pill prescription. I dont want to deal with this situation anymore... so for now it is condom & withdrawal even tho the guy is wearing a condom. For me I have had 2 unplanned pregnancies when I was in my early 20's/ I feel I can never be too careful

LadyHawke, I have my tubes tied . . . we he actually cut and cauterized the ends. They have different procedures for it, I feel most comfortable this way because it's less likely anything will get past the burnt end of the tube  Also, there are other issue that I would have worried about with getting a hysterectomy. The whole hormone thing, and I've heard more horror stories about that than the fear of getting pregnant again.

I guess it boils down to your own person preference and what you and your doctor decide is best for you.

Our main method of birth control is condoms with spermacide. We have a few no sex days each month as well. And if she is going to give another guy a bj, she has a sweet trick of putting a flavoured condom on him using only her mouth.

My Dr. kept my eggs and tubes that way you don't have the hormone issue. There is just no place for them to go. The plus side no cycle at all yea !!, so can have sex any time, and not worry about a mess.

For anyone who had a hysterectomy or tubal or anything else...what are the benefits and negatives from the procedures ?

As far as I know a doctor can cut and or burn your tubes to prevent them growing back together.

They can also clip them with rings and clips.

There is also a non-surgical tubal.

Anon surgical tubal is called Essure. An Essure is a kind of a coil, which is inserted into your womb like a normal IUD. The only difference is Essure causes some sort of scarring on your womb, which prevents fertilization from occurring.

Hope this helps a bit.

Maria.

I’ve been on a pill for 2 and a half years. I still used condoms with both my partners while on the pill because of fear of stds.

However my migraines got a lot worse. So much so that I was incapacitated and wasn’t able to work because I got attacks every second day. Changing the brand of the pill and going on progesterone only pill didn’t help either. So I had to come off it altogether.

Then I was using condoms and spermicides for about 6 months. I was living in constant fear while just using those. On one occasion a condom slipped off and I had to take the morning after pill, which made my migraines worse again.

I knew this couldn’t go on. I mean I couldn’t even relax when we weren’t having intercourse, but were pleasuring each other in other ways even with someone I knew well because I knew I could get pregnant if he handled himself and then me.

I knew something had to be done about that.

The reason I waited 6 months was because I wanted to find out if my migraine doctor would allow me to go back on a pill. He didn’t. In fact I was told that I couldn’t use any hormone-based contraceptive.

I started looking at alternatives then.

At first I wanted a tubal. However after doing some research and talking to my doctor I decided not to take that measure yet as I’m not yet 30 and there’s a risk of a tubal pregnancy if you do it before 30.

I did some research on a copper IUD and have discussed it with my doctor and we both decided that for now this method would be ideal for me.

I still use condoms with 1 of my playmates and only go bareback with the other one who is a blood donor and therefore std safe, when we are sure it’s safe.

I know there is a risk of getting pregnant with an IUD. However I was given a 98 percent guarantee, which is quite high, I think.

God forbid, if I get pregnant, then I might have to go for a tubal. If not, I’ll see what happens after 5 years when it will be time to remove my coil. I could either get an other 1 or get fixed or perhaps they would come up with an other method in 5 years that might suit me.

What methods of birth control do you use when you swing?

I am rather astonished that all swingers don't use a 100 percent method of birth control. It appears to me they are the pill or surgery. All other methods have some risk for being impregnated. I am reasonably sure this is to be avoided in most cases. Only 58 percent use fool proof methods. (They do exist and are available.)

This is aside from the risk of contracting a STD.

I am 38, in theory fertile, I have been on birth control for years (Depo), on top of that we use condoms except with our closes friends, 2 couples we play bareback.

In the last 8 years, 3 different men have been ejaculated regularly inside me (including my husband) and we have never had any pregnancy scares.

I’m fixed, the Mrs. has a birth control implant. We use condoms when playing with others for penetration, but not for oral.

Condom to be safe but wouldn't worry to be pregnant since she tube tied beside she prefers to feel the skin contact.

The women in our family prefer birth control methods that also suspend our periods, such as continuously taking hormonal pills without the placebos or a hormonal IUD.  Neither us women nor the men have any objection to period sex, but avoiding the mess is nice and it is more considerate when a girl is demanding oral satisfaction too.

Speaking as a recent snip-"ee",  does the fact that a potential playmate has had a vasectomy a plus, a minus, or doesn't even factor into consideration when evaluating a new partner in the lifestyle?
    • By Dont.Stop
We are 40-somethings, less than six months into the lifestyle. But we've played plenty in that time. Met a couple a a party last weekend. 50-somethings, and plenty experienced. We got to talking and touching in the pool. While Mrs. DontStop and the male continued pool play, I led the female upstairs. Since it was obvious from the underwater action she was ready to mount me right there, I told as we headed up that we play safe. She said ok, but her husband didn't have any condoms.

We played upstairs and later they joined us. After some time he was ready to mount Mrs and we stopped him and said "You gotta wrap it first."

He didn't say much after that, and within in a few minutes he said he was taking a break and left the room, and us in a FMF situation.

Did we fail here, not expressing safe play to him ahead of time?
    • By prometheius
I thought it would be interesting to find out other peoples views on the subject of safe sex/being surgically safe. N8tureGirl and I have been in the lifestyle for just over a year now, and we’ve found that most of the males of the couples we’ve played with are not surgically safe. I am V-safe and as of this month, N8tureGirl will be surgically safe also. What I would like to know is: Why don’t more people address this issue? I do realize that there may be some people out here that might still wish to have children, but for the most part, if they haven’t had kids by now, what are they waiting for? After all, most of us here are 30 somethings or older. I have been frustrated by people, (men in particular), who seem to think that it should be our responsibility to make sure a pregnancy doesn’t happen. Condoms don’t always work, and most people say that they don’t like using them since it does change the sensations felt or not felt. To further my opinion on this matter, sterilization is much less expensive and uncomfortable for the men than the women.

When we got into swinging, we didn’t think about the fact that we were going to have to spend thousands (literally), on having the Mrs. fixed so she could enjoy herself without that concern hanging over her head. We’ve been told by more than one man that he was afraid that having the procedure done would hurt. This is a WTF moment for me, is there no pain in bearing a child? What about the financial pain of raising an unplanned child, or worse yet, the emotional pain of terminating an unwanted pregnancy? To me, this smacks of being self centered and makes me want to tell the guy that he can play with us once he gets his business taken care of. Fortunately, that will soon no longer be an issue for us.

I just wanted to hear other peoples' opinions on this issue.
    • By ErikaAndPeter
As newbies, my husband Peter and I have learned so much here. We greatly appreciate the community at Swingers Board. As we are seeking to become more involved in swinging, one of our concerns is pregnancy. We are both fertile. If I were to become pregnant, either by Peter or another man, it would be easy for me to have an abortion. However, if he impregnated another woman, it would be up to her to decide what to do, without us having any say. Peter does not like condoms, and of course they can fail. I am urging him to consider having a vasectomy. We are wondering what more experienced couples have faced in terms of pregnancies, vasectomies, or tubal ligations. Also, what situation in the poll best applies to you?
