What to do with all that media?

Recommended Posts

We have been swingers for 20+ years.  In that span of time we, like most everyone else here, have accumulated a massive repository of naughty and incriminating photos and videos.

A good friend's untimely passing (sudden heart attack at 50) caused me to once again ponder the fate of our "swingers archive" should we unexpectedly pass away.  I don't want all that stuff being discovered/distributed posthumously.

Currently, it all resides on a 3 TB external hard drive.  If I died some one could easily plug it into their laptop.  If I password protect it that can be pretty easily circumvented (I know bc I've had to do that).

I am not 100% comfortable putting it on "the cloud", partly because of all those celebrities who got their naughty selfies hacked, and partly bc tying all that naughty media to my Gmail account gives Google gigabytes of dirt on us both (and others).  But I'm sure they would never use it 😐

I hate to delete it. These are some of the best moments of our lives!

Have any of you given thought to this?  I'm curious if others struggle with this question, and what your solutions are.

It's just on the computer/on our phones which are password protected.  Possible someone could get access?  Sure.  Don't really care if someone violates our consent by forcibly getting into it and then is upset at what they find.  Clearly they're the ones in the wrong in that situation.

If you are dead, who cares? Maybe they’ll have more admiration for you.

The answer depends on which type of computer you are using.

Mac

If you are using a Mac, simply create an encrypted archive (or several of those), and drop everything there. Only the NSA will have the power to break that archive. I guess they have better things to do, though :)

Finder > Applications > Utilities folder. Choose 'Disk Utility'.  On the top of the menu, select File > New Image > Image from Folder. Choose the folder you wish to add a password to, then click 'Choose'.

On the next screen, choose your level of encryption (the higher the better) and your password (the longer the better - it can be a complete sentence). Click 'Choose'. Next, next to 'Image Format', selection 'Read/Write'. Select 'Save' to exit the window.

Once the system finishes encrypting the folder, click 'Done'.  Exit 'Disk Utility'.

Your newly created .dmg file is secure. You can use that .dmg file just as you would any other file. Double-click at any time to open it; you'll need to type in the password to complete the process.

Alternatively, you can use Veracrypt (see below)

Windows

You can use Microsoft's free Bitlocker, or :

- VeraCrypt https://veracrypt.fr/ (excellent software with a HUGE advantage : it works also on Mac & Linux. So you can open your archive in any of the three systems)
- DiskCryptor https://diskcryptor.org

(if you need help, contact us and we will help you)

We are personally using Mac with the solution above. All our naughty archives are encrypted this way, and then backed-up. If we die, nobody will be able to open them.

We are a younger couple and my GF has a "who cares" attitude about pictures and videos.  I have the opposite attitude but I let her do whatever she likes regarding pictures and videos with other guys and she's very liberal about it.  She always says that in 10 years from now everyone's sex pictures and videos will be out there and no one will care, so she's very relaxed about other guys taking pictures and videos.  Any pictures and videos with me in them are stored very securely as I like to keep that stuff private.

Yeah, certainly much more liberal about that in the generation that has grown up with social media.  Have videos of yourself getting railed on OnlyFans?  That's just a good business venture to be shared on twitter, instagram, etc rather than something to be ashamed of.

That is definitely the attitude we see among the younger Lifestylers.  Maybe it shows our age, but the thought of my grown children discovering explicit pics of their Mom getting it on with Derek - Dad's "friend from work" - doesn't sit well with us.  It's not just us, but there is an assortment of faces in our photo archive that will be familiar to our family and kids.  I think if given the option to discover pics like that of my parents or not, I would choose not.

Rather than destroy, would be nice to specify a release date, say 50 years after date of death. Future sociologists and cultural anthropologists would benefit from understanding the difference between public behaviors and what people actually did...

Now that is something I think we would allow - as long as it be released anonymously and not have our children/grandchildren be the vector through which the future world learns about our kinks!

Having it password protected is better than nothing and will deter most people from accessing it. Having it encoded like with the above mentioned programs is even better. The third option is to post it in the photos section here and the odds of anyone you know of finding it is almost 0 (and if anyone does, they will have to explain what they are doing on a swingers board). But as also pointed out, once you are dead, what does it matter? You go from just being some old 'stick in the mud' parents to two people who were sexual adventurers...

We don't have any kids so perhaps that is one of the reasons she feels that way.  I think having kids would possibly change her thoughts on it.... or maybe not.  I still like my privacy but she is very open about it.  There are guys out there who have plenty of more pictures and videos of her than I do.

It's definitely a generational thing.  And my GF has made money on the chats but hasn't done OnlyFans.  I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to do that though.

Finding your daughter’s hidden pictures can be very traumatizing. I hope everyone knows when you back up your iPhone your pictures are backed up too.
