I thought this would be an interesting poll. I didn't see where it was asked before and I was just curious. So, the question is, how many different couples/singles have you had sex with?

Ok, I might sound a little dumb here, but you said intercourse. BUt are we talking about just male/female sex? Or are you including male/male or female/female?

Wow I didn't think there would be so many questions. Since I said partners, it would be what Julie said over a course of a life time I guess.

The last time Red and I started trying to work out how many partners we had had (total, not just swinging) the conversation got so hot that we ended up totally distracted, hot and sweaty and we lost count!

What I find interesting that of the respondents, 63% have been with what they consider 20 or less partners. Kind of the anti-swinging image vanillas paint of the swinging lifestyle. I think it shows that we are a much more selective and discreet bunch than those outside the lifestyle would take us for.

Actually, I guess I shouldn't be tooo concerned about having more than a fair share of partners. I've been sexually active since I was 14. I'm 37 now. That's 23 years of sex. If you break it down, that's about 1.3 different people per year. Unless you count last year...then it throws all of the figures off.

Hubby says I have to get off the computer now because it's apparent that I've got way too much time on my hands today. LOL He says he has something to take care of my boredom. :D

It is either what you state or it shows that many people consider themselves swingers that are really just voyeurs or exhibitionists. :D

Kind of limiting yourself here. If we count the last year alone, we would be off your scale. But, then again, we are swingers who go to parties to have sex, not just to sit around and talk about it. That is what this is about, correct?

I'm a little saddened. I thought the numbers would be higher. Maybe we're not as evil and outrageous as others may think.

As a swinging couple for almost 6 years we have had sex (defined as mutual masterbation, oral, anal, and/or intercourse) with 8 single men, 19 couples, 3 single women, and one tranny. We have a date tonight so hopefully the numbers will be different tomorrow.

Let's face it. I'm 51 years old and spent 22-1/2 of those in the military and nearly 5 of those were spent in South Korea. A different working girl every month...maybe 2.

Yes, I DO know the exact number, and that's only because a former girlfriend once asked about it, and I gave her my best estimate. She wasn't too happy with the number I gave her, so I started adding them up by year, then by decade. It turned out that my estimate had been about 60% of what it should have been. I only counted non-commercial, full-intercourse encounters...NOT blow jobs, hand jobs, oral sex, or bar girls I'd met while stationed overseas. I did count women I/we later met via the Lifestyle, but I differentiated them from women I'd dated (and bedded) in a conventional sense while single.

The actual number isn't as important as some of the facts I noticed when compiling the list. Overall, I remembered about 95% of their names and at least one personal detail about them. About 20% were 1 or 2 night stands, never to be seen again. Almost all of the first encounters involved alcohol to some extent, and a few involved drugs...mostly pot (in the 70's) or cocaine (the early 80's). About 5% of the total were married or in relationships with somebody else at the time. The same number holds true for me as well, mostly with my 1st and 2nd wives.

Comparing how many different sex partners I've had as a single male to how many I had in the Lifestyle as part of a couple, the ratio is almost 4 to 1. I suspect that's because it's hard for 4 people to "click!" Besides, when you're married, there's no reason to go home with a total stranger just because you're horny. If sex were simply "a game of numbers," a couple could probably do better than a single male by hanging out at swing clubs and fucking all the other post-notchers there. Big numbers, but very few smiles. Sorry, that's just not my style...

One thing I learned from all this is that at some point, things start repeating themselves. #17 is like #2 all over again. #22 is like #5, etc etc. If you're not making some sort of personal connection to the person you're fucking, it gets as boring and monotonous as marriages sometimes do. That's why swinging doesn't work for some people...the only "connection" is through sex, and they don't consider that a connection at all.

I'm such a whore.....I stopped counting at ......Oh my.. I am afraid that if I admit to the number you won't respect me. See, some of you might be turned off by someone who's been with too many women. And I certainly don't want anyone to think bad of me - especially those of you who were thinking we might get together.

Ok, here goes. . . I stopped counting at 100...

That doesn't count oral sex. Just full on sexual intercourse.

I know I'm a whore, but am I bad??

When I first met my first wife in college, we walked down the main drag at Cal State (PA) and had 10 girls all wave to me and say "Hi". She asked who they were and I could not remember any of their names but I do remember I did them all. :D I was such a slut!!

Isn't it interesting how few people are willing to say how many people they've had intercourse with in their lifetimes?

Both of us were married once previously. I was her 8th sexual partner, and she was my 6th.

After nearly 9 years of swinging, she now has had intercourse with 42 men and I have had intercourse with 34 women. So I am averaging about 3 new sex partners per year since we started swinging, and she is averaging about 4 new sex partners per year.

I guess we're just sluts, but we sure are HAPPY sluts!

I don't think few are willing, most have answered by way of the poll - that's what polls are for. It's much easier to give a ballpark (for some) than to give an exact count. Some of us don't keep diaries are put notches in our bedposts after each encounter to ensure an accurate count.

I put 20-25 ... though I don't know if that's accurate. Hubby was my #8 as I was married before, though first husband and I did not swing and we were married for 10 years. I was somewhat active prior to my first marriage.

Last I counted, I was up to around 19 ... that includes swing partners, husbands and "others".

If I had to include the two date rapes, that would add two more, but I generally don't include them. :rollseyes

Julie, we don't put notches on our bedposts or keep diaries either. What we DO, though, is keep an excel file of names & dates. Hopefully we won't ever need that, but if the Health Department ever notified us that someone we had been with had an STD and wanted us to get ourselves checked out and wanted to know who WE had been with, we think it is only responsible to keep records.

I lost count, and checked that option in the poll.

Whatever would you do if someone came across your Little Black List?

Me and the wife got to thinking on this, got to remembering, got distracted and went to bed for awhile :)

Anyways, it's about 25 different men for her, and less than 10 women for me... this is only after we started swinging.

We like threesomes a lot, so she gets a lot more new partners than I do... which is fine with me.

To me the interesting question is -- if you stop and think, and count up. How many has it really been since your first in high school and college? Even before swinging or marriage, if you are in your 20's three, four, five partners a year is probably not uncommon.

The number gets to be much larger than you ever thought it would be when you are a young teen just discovering sex.

And when you add the contacts you have in swinging and swapping, the number

does get large. I would love to see what an epidemiologist comes up with for "numbers of sexual contacts" by age.

I would also like to see what the chances for STD is with those contacts, and the "normal" practices of hygiene and sanitation. Which are a long way from what you would want or are written about in some idealized posts.

While bragging about how many women we had each bedded in our lifetime a co-worker and I struck up a wager. The first one to bed the entire alphabet (counting the first letter of her first name) would win. Now there are some hard letters to get. Q and X being the most difficult. There were a lot of Joanne, I remember. This took weeks, as you can imagine. As I recall, neither of us won. But it was great fun!

Our recent mfm was my 10th partner. I was married & monogamous (even tho he wasnt) for over 23 years so I havent 'been around' much. I know my numbers are going up since nmturfman & I got in to the lifestyle. I dont see this as any reflection on my moral character- but rather as a part of my liberation.

wow! I am really surprised at this... I am a swinger n the making...I had sex with my 1st husband for 5 years , then sex with my 2nd husband for 4 years, then 4 other lovers within one year ..of which one is now my only...I am really perplexed that the poll shows such low numbers..I thought being a swinger would rack up the numbers! Explain!!!

Something to remember is that many people on this site are not swingers or are very new to the lifestyle as you are so it tends to keep these numbers low.

I think that it is because swinging is a social activity and there are a lot of people that do it to meet like minded friends. Looking at the poll, I see that most people are very selective or that are after quantity with a few in between. I know for us, we are very selective who we play with. We meet and have become friends with a few, acquaintances with many and shed many more away as not what we are looking for as we do not "take one for the team". Finding a couple that trips both of our triggers is not easy or fast to do.

I've only been with my husband. We haven't been with anyone else.

We talked about a threesome once. He even checked out an escort service,

but they wanted a lot of money. So, we're still waiting!!

Him, accurate count is 55 at present and counting

Her, aout 12 to 15 total and counting

These numbers only include m/f sex, and does not include f/f events, of which there are an additional 6 or 7 for her. :)

He is 54 and she is 52 years old. Most of these were BEFORE getting involved in swinging, but that's what the poll asked for.

Okay, saw a lot of questions going on here I am going with over the lifetime and that is what I added to the pole. That is the 13 in my lifetime personally and the 4 we have "played" with as a couple or single in the lifestyle. This includes anything where 1 person at least had some sort of orgasm whether intercourse, oral or "touchy feely". That about covers it all, I guess. So suprisingly, most folks seem to fall in the under 15 category. I don't know, just don't want to be the "biggest slut" award winner any more than I did when I was a teenager. Quality, not quantity is what I prefer, I guess. V

My lifetime total: 4 (2 since swinging)

Mr. Sweet: 3 (2 since swinging)

We'll get those numbers up eventually, lol!

For me, just over 60. Pre-marriage, 50 or so encounters (all straight) in 6 years that involved vaginal intercourse and included a couple of 4 couple daisychains, 2 foursomes and an FMF with 2 very pretty cousins that lasted a year, all when I was single through 1979. In '80 I met my better half (who was a virgin) and we've had just 10 since, mainly due to fear of Herpes and AIDS, making us WAY more careful about whom we choose to "hook-up" with.

My ex-wife and I were in the lifestyle for several years, and then unfortunately found out she had been cheating (several times in college, and two separate affairs during our marriage) during our entire 10-year relationship, even while we were swingers (but never with other swingers). Took me a long time to reflect on what happened, how I may have contributed, questioned swinging, etc. It took me some time and many of my friends to help me realize she had a LOT of issues, and still does.

I was concerned there could be the possibility my ex-wife would try to accuse me of something false related to our swinging (I made her do it, etc.) that would eventually reveal my past to my new wife. Honestly, I approached the lifestyle with my ex-wife as a gift to her - it was all for her, not myself; I learned a lot about myself, and thought we had completely open, honest, and loving communication, never pushing each other to do something and always respecting our decisions made together as a couple, and truly thought it was improving our marriage. I give you that backstory to tell you my current story…

I’m remarried to an incredible woman, and could go on for days how amazing and stunning she truly is…we’re both devout Christians and attend church regularly. A few months before I proposed (she knew it was coming, ring picked out, etc.), I made it a point to be completely honest with her and tell her about my past in the lifestyle with my ex-wife, no details, just the blunt fact. I’m honest to a fault and deeply believe I owed my now wife the entire truth, especially in case my ex- decided to falsely accuse me of something related to our lifestyle involvement.

She didn’t take it very well, she was very disgusted and felt taken advantage of, etc., and I actually thought at one point she wouldn’t accept my proposal. It took a little while, but we finally worked through it, but not after some very specific questions she had about it all…which I tried very hard to still vaguely side-step (going into steamy sex details about an ex- with your current girlfriend isn’t exactly wise course of action).

My current wife is more reserved and conservative in her beliefs, but popular and stylish, and not at all a prude. She immediately denounced swinging and asked if I wanted her to do the same, pictured me doing all these gross orgies with ugly people, etc…typical mainstream misconceptions and misunderstandings of what the lifestyle really is…and I explained it to her. She’s not the most confident woman in bed, part of her reserved side, but I’ve been trying to get her out of her sexual shyness shell so to speak for a while.

But for the past couple years, year of engagement and year of marriage, our sex frequency has gone down considerably, almost seems like she’s disinterested. I have to initiate sex all the time, she never does oral (giving or receiving) or any other foreplay, and she makes it seem like a task to get done and over with most of the time. [side note, she’s performed oral on me once, while she was on her period because she felt obligated, which I stopped her and told her she didn’t have to just because of that and felt she HAD to please me, I’m a gentleman, and not selfish. She took it as I didn’t like how she was doing it, so she claims to this day…]

It worries me, and I’ve brought up my frustrations a couple times and she actually listened, but nothing really has changed, she hasn’t opened up and communicated or appear to feel more comfortable during sex. There have been extremely brief glimpses of hope at times though (before I discussed my frustration)… like when I was trying to skirt details of explaining the lifestyle, I did ask her about her sexual history and if she had ever had a one night stand before, which she did admit to me she’s had one (so at least one, maybe more, which was a encouraging in my opinion) and I was merely relating the similarity to swinging that sex can be for fun and just for sex and to help her see that her desires are not so far off from a swinging couples, it’s along the same lines and even better if you consider the open communication.

Another occasion, she initiated and for once acted like a sex goddess one night we stayed at a friend's house after drinks, wouldn’t let me get up without fucking her, she was vocal, passionate, wild, it was incredible…but she did have some drinks in her. Another - she tried to get me to have sex in a public bathroom when we were out with a bunch of friends once (work friends mind you), which I wasn’t really into and said no…which she got upset and accused me of swinging but I wouldn’t do that with her…caught me off guard a little and made me wonder her real intent for wanting to in the first place, testing me or truly acting on exhibitionism impulse.

With these examples, I’d like to think there’s a sexually free woman in there somewhere, at least I hope, she just doesn’t communicate about this kind of stuff very well, and I really hope her knowledge of my past doesn’t make her feel more inadequate or insecure in bed. If anything, I had hoped it would open her up to feel more comfortable in expressing her desires and sexual prowess with me, but it has definitely not.

I am not trying to get her to be a swinger, and won’t ever bring that up, ever, but I do want to have that same open communication and comfort sexually with just her that I learned from the lifestyle, complete and respectful open honest dialogue about what we both want, like, dislike, etc. I do want her to feel desire and comfort initiating sex on her own more confidently. I just don’t know where to start or how to approach…which is why I’m here, asking some old lifestyle friends for any sage advice or ideas that maybe I’m not thinking of or haven’t tried yet.

We met with a couple at a club that we had been chatting with and we clicked and decided to play. When it came down to the protection part, I guess we hadn't chatted about it before then, but we found out that they normally don't use it. Of course they agreed to with us. No protection is a deal breaker for us. What I'm now wondering is if you wouldn't play with someone who doesn't use protection all the time?
    • By km34
Last Thursday I went to a local club. I'd been there before with my husband, but this time I went with, well, I honestly don't know what to call him. Friend-ish person is usually how I refer to him.

So, Friend-ish and I go to the club. It's a great night to be there, enough people to make it fun without it being crazy crowded. Very nice. We're hanging out in the hot tub (one of the main reasons we decided to go) and a bunch of people assume we're "together" until I start talking about hubby or he starts talking about his live-in partner or my boyfriend comes up in conversation. Then we get the look. The confused, "I'm not entirely sure what's going on here" look. So we explain we're poly, that we are somewhere in between being friends and being in a relationship, touch briefly on how our relationships work, and say life is great. One of two things seemed to happen. Either people were very much okay with this concept and it made perfect sense OR they were completely confused/not feeling it and felt the need to wander away. Almost immediately.

Where I live, poly is VERY common. Open relationships in general are practically considered "normal" (at least in my age bracket, 20s-30s). Because of this, I wasn't expecting much discomfort/confusion when poly came up. HOWEVER, I still felt uncomfortable just bringing it up out of nowhere! Part of me felt like it wasn't pertinent (I mean, really - I wasn't even there to play so why do people need to know?) but another part of me thinks that this is part of who I am and I should LEARN to be comfortable talking about it, regardless of my intent when conversing with people.

I guess I just wanted to ramble on about this for a while, and ask a very simple question.

Is it pertinent? When you're talking to someone at a swing club (or party or whatever), would you want/need to know if they are with their ONLY partner or just one of a few? If yes, why is that information important? Do other poly folks make it clear when they are meeting potential playmates?

Virginity....I know for me I sort of have to scratch my head and try to remember what virginity was....

Where did you lose your virginity? (no need to mention age here)

I lost mine in the back seat of a '66 Rambler Classic to my boyfriend at the time, soon to become the father of my children.

We parked that baby (and she was a beauty) on a back dusty road right above a dirt covered mound, beneath the stars, no trees, no brush, no grass. It was really cold outstide so we left the motor running in order to have heat. We were one with the earth in the middle of nowhere.....so we thought...

Right in the middle of when things were getting really heated, and I mean REALLY heated, there was a rap on the car window (shoulda been a sign right then and there). The county Sheriff was tapping with his flashlight on our rear window. He had been called out to investigate the noise on top of the complaintants home. We were atop the first underground home built in our area!

Back then they didn't arrest you for these kind of things, they just insured you left the area. And leave we did! We found another spot a county over in a state park and there I lost it.

Geesh what fond memories I have of that night....of the Rambler that is...

So where did you lose yours?

People sharing what questions they ask about potential playmates and sexual history has led to some very interesting thoughts and discussions. The one I found most interesting was the idea of "wild" people are not safe. Which of course led to the discussion of what constitutes being "wild". How many partners does it take for you to decide ok this person just has had too many partners for me to feel safe with them.

Are there other issues that constitute wild? At what point do you feel that you just can't trust your sexual health in the "hands" of this person or people?
