I was thinking about how it's pretty much commonplace to see shaved (or at least very well trimmed) genitalia in both women and men in the lifestyle. I can't tell you the last time I saw a hairy bush (probably mine 15 years ago?). That got me thinking, did you shave prior to swinging? would you still shave if you weren't swinging? For that matter, why do you shave? I can't recall if I started shaving before or after I started swinging. I know the first time was when I was dating my now hubby (over 15 years ago) he shaved me as part of play one night. It was also the first time he ever went down on me (as the pubic hair was a huge turn-off for him towards the idea of "eating out"). I believe that after that I did at least start keeping it well trimmed, but I'm not sure I started shaving it right away. Over the years I've continued to keep it shaved just because now I hate the feeling when there is hair down there.

The wife and I are interested in swinging but we have a big concern about STD's. Being more open sounds great but not at the cost of personal health. Any good advice on this topic?

You would not want this to happen to you. It has happened to us. We are informing people with whom we have had contact for the previous few months. It becomes evident only after a few weeks. It is not a sexually-transmitted disease (STD). It is not an STI. It is an infestation. It is not pleasant. The remedy is easy (requires no prescription), but is not (you must follow the instructions exactly). You are out of the swing lifestyle loop for a couple of months as you want to know it is gone for sure. You do not know how you got it -- it could have been from intimate contact -- it could have been from your brother's-in-law dog rolling around on your sofa. But you have it. A condom would not have blocked it. You must launder everything and take things to the dry cleaner in plastic bags and explain the reason that it should not be mixed with other people's clothing. You have crabs (you can see them and their little white eggs (nits) even without a magnifying glass). You want to be rid of them owing to the fact that they itch, itch, itch. And you do not want other people to suffer this. So you do the right thing. Well, it's not a dread disease.
